Not only is this an exquisitely planned, sewn and quilted mural, but it depicts an age- old tradition of harvesting wild rice from lakes like Wabikon.
Would love a print. Message me!!

Titled "Coming To The Harvest" we could not be more proud to share this quilted mural that is now on display inside Wiisini-Daa. Thank you so much to Wendy Ahnen from Eagle River for bringing this to life. ❤️

The restaurant is now open in a "soft open" capacity. A grand opening will be scheduled for October and details of that event will be announced soon.

Great community history of “The Soup”. I remember my mom dropping off a few cans of vegetables each August for the event. Proud that the Laona community has kept this going decade after decade!

The caption on the 1930 Soup picture held at the John Russel cottage says that 312 people were served soup that day. What a remarkable feat that must have been in Laona just thirty years after the Connor sawmill came into operation. This tradition started with a few families in 1919-20 during a time of great growth throughout our country, a time referred to as Roaring Twenties. Ten years later at the time of this Community Soup, we were nine months into the Great Depression. Factories and sawmills were closed and un-employment numbers were at historical rates that we have never had since that time. This 1930 vintage Community Soup was indeed an act of kindness and showed how these early Silver Lake residents reached out to feed 312 people who were living here during the years of the Great Depression. This tradition continued, with the exception of the WWII era, until 1951 when the Laona Lions Club was chartered and officially hosted this
event.

The Laona Lions club will again be hosting the Centennial Community Soup on August 7 th 2021 at the Silver Lake Beach. Dan Bobbe, Club secretary and event chairperson has chosen the theme. REMEMBERING THE PAST…PLEDGING TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY … WITH YOUR HELP.

Please join us August 7 th for the Centennial Community Soup and familyFun! We will have old fashioned kids games. Free popcorn for all, and free snow cones for the kids. There will be Entertainment by the Stone Soup Brothers and a Readers Theater of stories by Mike Monte.

Food Concessions will feature burgers, brats, dogs, French fries and
Beverages. Cotton candy, strawberry short cakes, and home baked
sweets with be sold with the help of our new Community 4-H Club.
Raffles will be held to support our Laona Lions Club’s service work.
Finally we will wrap the day with Ken Zupon’s Achy Brachy Logging
show contest.

Piacenza’s on Wabikon

Welcome to our family retreat nestled on the water, in the north woods. Beautiful new build with history. Set in 1920 cabin footprints which have been family owned since 1947, these brand new handcrafted shoreline cabins are only 10 feet from the shoreline. Private deck for sunrises, star-gazing, spotting wildlife such as great blue heron, eagles, loons, trumpeter swans. Boat through wild rice; catch panfish, bass, northerns, trout or even a muskie. Fish, kayak, boat on a lake where the only splash is a diving bird or fish jumping. Get away to this undeveloped, protected northern Wisconsin lake and let nature take you away...
