Highly recommend a quick trip up the A8 for a day out in Nazaré. Great restaurants, shops and beautiful beaches complete with sun drying fish! About 45 mins drive.

Here is a small selection of the stunning views on offer 110 metres down in the grutas de Aire de Mira, the largest cave system in Portugal and one of the country’s seven wonders. It’s just over an hours drive from the villa and well worth a visit.

They’re not small, those dinosaur footprints at Vale de Meios - around an hour’s drive from the villa and combine your day out with a trip to the grutas de Mira de Aire - the largest cave system in Portugal - which is a further 30 minute drive.

The International Chocolate Festival of Óbidos is back! From April 25 to May 5, the streets of this medieval village turn into a big shopping centre of cakes and chocolates that everyone can taste and buy. There’ll also be a number of activities and events in which you can take part!

Obidos Chocolate Festival: 1st-30th April

It's the closest you'll get to joining W***y Wonker and his oompa loompas! The beautiful medieval town of Obidos, which is a about 15mins from Casa Amendoa, will go chocolate mad for the whole of April. So if you love chocolate you know where you should be!

Someone asked about the posters we have on the walls at Casa Amendoa. They were designed by Andre Chiote - here's a post he put up on his page about them. Congratulations to the Outhouse for winning the BBC's Riba Stirling Prize 2016 'people's vote' with its modernist design. Lots of striking similarities with Casa Amendoa - the long sleek design, floor to ceiling windows, overhanging planted green roof and that outside-in feel, not to mention the fabulous views the design allows.

A sleek, modernist concrete house built in the middle of a rural beauty spot wins a BBC News vote to find readers' favourite new British building.
