Happy Independence Day from the Virgin Islands!

If you weren’t aware, this is an incredibly important time of year in the history of the Virgin Islands.

July 3 is Emancipation Day in the US Virgin Islands, commemorating the event on July 3, 1848 when all enslaved individuals in the Danish West Indies were freed. This only occurred after 9000 enslaved people gathered at Fort Frederik in St. Croix to demand their freedom. Before the sunset, they were free. Emancipation was then first proclaimed on St. John the next day, on July 4.

For perspective, President Abraham Lincoln didn’t announce his famed “Emancipation Proclamation” until 1863.

There’s an incredible depth to our history, besides just the sandy beaches - and it’s a history we are proud to share and celebrate!

When you stay here, you don't just meet our bartenders and front desk staff; you meet our housekeepers, landscapers, owners, as well as other resort guests. You become part of our family.

So when our members of our staff are going through a hard time, we feel it, too. We've had a few staff members go through some tough and challenging times lately. That's why we wanted to send this simple email to let you know, as well as to ask you to keep our staff in your thoughts or include them in your prayers.
