In the many years of guiding, I've met some great people along the way. 3 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. and Mrs Mueller. What a great older couple. Mr Mueller always wanted to catch a Redfish. Unfortunately every year they came down from Illinois in the winter, the weather was cold and blowing. Hardly the best fishing conditions, we didn't manage to get a Redfish.
Well this past year unfortunately Mr M passed away. But not before leaving strict instructions to come back to the Everglades to fish with me one more time.
This past weekend, I took Mr M, Mrs M,her daughter, and son-in-law fishing. Is was a great day with a mixed bag of reds, snook, sheepshead, blk drum, and trout.
We were down to the last baitshrimp at the last few minutes of the day,so we wanted Mrs M to have it. I baited the unusually large shrimp on her line, then said to her,"this one's for Mr M!" I took the rod, casted the bait. Then a gust of wind blew my cast from the intended spot to on top of the oyster bar. Well I thought to myself, it's gonna get hung up. Then all of a sudden, the cork sunk, and drag screamed! A HUGE REDFISH!
When we boated the big red, I noticed that everyone was crying! It seems Mr M was there after all and finally got his red!
THIS IS A TRUE STORY!
