Taking the road less traveled from Haa, to Bhutan’s capital Thempu, we pass the scene of a bridge that tragically collapsed during construction. A plaque commemorates those who lost their lives.

Archery is Bhutan’s national sport, and Bruce couldn’t resist purchasing a bow, arrows, and a target for post ride shenanigans, and driver Kili is a keen instructor. At 140 the Bhutanese archery range is the world’s longest (allegedly); these folks are good archers.

Leaving Paro we hit the road for our ride east through the Himalayas, our first challenge is a 35KM climb across a pass just shy of 4000 metres above sea level; that caused a little huffing and puffing 😊.

Bhutan cycling tour 2024. A warm up ride following a beautiful valley out of Paro, lead to a beautiful riverside lunch spot. And a quick tower of locally brewed and rather delicious IPA was considered (by at least three of us) a fine way to prepare for the following day’s climb over a 4000 meter mountain pass 🤭.

Our Bhutan cycling tour begins with a beautiful trek, through pine forest, to the magnificent Tigers Nest monastery, perched aside a cliff 3200 meters above sea level. A great way for the group to get to know one another before our cycling adventure begins.
