Another weekly re-cap.
Sturgeon fishing has been fair.
Water temperatures are fluctuating and the rain is helping to keep temperatures cool for migratory fish and sturgeon.
But something is coming - we’ll see how it pans out down here.

We are nearing the opening of our 35th guiding season and we are anticipating the fishing and guiding to come this year. We look forward to spending time in the boat fishing with old friends, meeting new friends, and introducing new anglers to the Fraser river fishery. When I think of old and new, there is enjoyment for us guides from every group because there’s always new possibilities, especially when we get to witness the expressions of a first time sturgeon angler who just hooked up, or see a returning guest turn over their best fish.

As always, the weather plays a prominent role in how our fishery plays out by way of how river levels are situated through the year. River levels and subsequent water temperatures are important to the health of our fish. If I had some “weather wishes” for 2024, I would like to see a mild spring with normal rainfall, a moderate summer with some rain every week to ten days to keep river temperatures comfortable for summer salmon returns and for our sturgeon, and a regular west coast fall that brings some regular rain to keep water levels suitable for the returning, local salmon runs of chinook, coho and chum. The key word in all of that, is rain. We don’t need rain in torrents – just some nice, average, regular, casual rain!

While the majority of our guiding revolves around sturgeon, we will also be hosting local salmon fishing trips for chum and coho whether it be by gear or by fly. I enjoy the change-up in the fall by fishing for some salmon. During the fall, its not hard to salmon and sturgeon fish successfully in one outing.

This year, Bowie, Larry and myself will be taking care of the guiding duties. One component of sturgeon fishing that we as guides enjoy, is our desire to move around the river and cover different ground as water levels rise and fall, and as the seasons progress.

Maggie and I would like to express our thanks and gratitude to each and every one of you who fished with us this year and to those who have fished with us before, but couldn’t make it in 2023. You are appreciated and we thank you. You have all made it a terrific year of fishing and guiding.
In keeping with the season, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. May the New Year bring you health and happiness.

We hope to see you again and we look forward to meeting new guests to Cascade Fishing Adventures in 2024.

See you in the spring!

Here’s a little shout out to our friend and past fishing guide CEJ and his wife Tracy’s new venture, Sharpe Distillery
at Cawston, BC. Many of our guests will remember “Horseshoe” 😆 - if you’re passing through, stop in, they’re less than 60 seconds off the highway. We recommend the Pisqu Sour and the raspberry gin (not on the list). Thanks for having us and good luck with your new business CEJ and Tracy!

Great shot of a great catch and release on a walk and wade a few months ago. Chum salmon are caught using every fishing technique we employ including float fishing, spin casting and fly fishing. Chum offers great sport fishing in the Fall.

Well, the results are in for Groundhog Day!
Ontario's Wiarton Willie called for an early spring🥀 while Shubenacadie Sam, Nova Scotia's most famous groundhog, apparently saw her shadow, calling for six more weeks of winter.❄️

I think we'll go with Wiarton Wille for an early spring🥀😀

It's Throwback Thursday!
Here's a great shot from about 16 years ago of an 11' 3" White Sturgeon, nearing 900lbs! Great elbow strength by Cyril Paquin and Tim Swain for 90 minutes to land this huge sturgeon. That was one BIG fish.🦈
