Evergreen Club Homestays is a homestay travel network for social folks over 50. We believe that people naturally want to help others have a great experience. Since 1982, Evergreen has created a network of like-minded individuals who want to make friends, help each other travel, and have wonderful adventures. We foster a sense of genuine hospitality and the adventure of newness! The club makes trav

el accessible by providing an alternative to expensive, impersonal hotels. Our system of a yearly membership + modest gratuity is just a way to show gratitude and demonstrate the pay-it-forward mentality. HOW IT WORKS:
Members both host and travel. The only money that exchanges hands is a modest $15-$20/night gratuity paid from guest to host. This means you can stop wasting time hunting for hotel deals, and get on to your adventures! DO I QUALIFY FOR MEMBERSHIP? Yes, if...
- You have a guest room to add to the network.
- You are willing to host and provide breakfast when it fits your schedule.
- You have turned age 50. Evergreen members are friendly, adventurous, caring, fun, unselfish, interested in meeting new people, and express a gracious sense of hospitality. If this sounds like you, we'd love to have you! WHAT DOES IT COST? Less than what you’d spend for one night at most hotels! Essentially, you travel for free, only paying a small gratuity which reimburses the host for cooking and cleaning. Membership costs only $120/year + $15-$20/night gratuity when you stay at a host's home. (Solo guest = $15/night, Couple = $20/night)

If you live outside of the US, Canada, or Mexico (International Member) your deal is even sweeter -- $120 for 5 years! So for just $0.33/day, you have access to the network and can stay anywhere in the world there’s a willing host. It goes both ways; in order to benefit from these low prices, members help others by hosting in their own homes. HOW TO JOIN:
- Go to evergreenclub.com and click the JOIN button on the upper right.
- Add your guest room to the network. When you join, you become a guest AND a host.
- Start searching our live Google® Map Search or online directory to see the specific home locations where you want to travel.
- Click on any house or directory listing to go to that member’s profile page.
- Simply email or call that member to set up your visit. Hosts: Provide a clean bathroom, a comfortable and private sleeping area, breakfast, and details on local treasures. Mint Meringue Cookies: A Holiday & Family Favorite

This week’s recipe is a very old and beloved Austrian recipe called Kaiserschmarrn or Emperor’s pancake. And did you know that this most loved dish has an imperial origin story? The name comes from “Kaiser” (emperor) and “Schmarren” (mess), which perfectly describes this indulgent, fluffy, and slightly messy pancake dish. But how did this become a royal favorite?

There are two popular theories:

The Happy Accident: Legend has it that Emperor Franz Joseph was out hunting and stopped by a farmer’s house for a meal. The farmer, nervous about hosting such a royal guest, tried to make pancakes but, in his rush, the batter fell apart. Instead of being upset, he covered the pieces in plum compote. The emperor loved it so much, the dish became a regular in his royal diet!

Princess Sisi’s Picky Palate: Another tale suggests that the emperor’s wife, Princess Sisi, was watching her figure and refused to eat a delicate pancake made by the royal chef. However, Emperor Franz Joseph, apparently not so concerned with his waistline, loved the “mess” and dubbed it “Kaiserschmarrn.” And from there, it became a royal favorite!

Whether you’re celebrating the upcoming holidays with a unique breakfast, or looking for a fun dessert to share, Kaiserschmarrn is the perfect choice— it’s light, sweet, and has just the right amount of fluffiness.

As we approach Dia de los Mu***os, we invite you to embrace this vibrant tradition that honors our loved ones who have passed away, combining ancient Aztec customs with modern festivities.

From colorful altars, called ofrendas, adorned with loved one’s photos, favorite foods, and marigolds to lively events filled with music and dance, this celebration is a heartfelt tribute to those we’ve lost. Add your guest room to the network. When you join, you become a guest AND a host.

Start searching our live Google® Map to see the specific home locations where you want to travel.

Click on any house to go to that member’s Profile page.

Simply email or call that member to set up your visit.

Hosts: provide a clean bathroom, comfortable, private sleeping area, breakfast & details on local treasures.

Guests/travelers: provide a small gratuity (scroll for details) and get to know your host. See what you have in common!

Do I qualify for membership? Yes, if...

You have a guest room to add to the network.

You are willing to host & provide breakfast when it fits your schedule.

You have turned age 50.

So what does it cost?

Membership costs only $75/year -- less than what you’d spend for one night at a hotel. This lets you access the network and stay anywhere in the world there’s a willing host. If you live outside of the US, Canada, or Mexico (International member) your deal is even sweeter -- $80/5 years!

Essentially, you travel for free + a small gratuity. Gratuity reimburses the host for cooking & cleaning. Guest pays gratuity directly to host. It goes both ways; in order to benefit from these low prices, members help others benefit by hosting in their own homes.

Gratuity: Solo guest = $15/day. Couple = $20/day.
