The deadline is fast approaching to submit applications to hunt pronghorn and elk in 2022.

Applications must be received by the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) by 11:59 p.m. (Arizona time) Tuesday, Feb. 8. To apply, visit www.azgfd.gov and click on “Apply for a Draw.”

Sounds like the department is getting a lot of comments about taking away lion, bobcat, and bear hunting in AZ. See below and send an email to AZGFD.
At a recent National Turkey Foundation zoom meeting Amber Munig, Arizona Game and Fish Department Game Branch Chief said that the Department is getting a great deal of comments lately concerning taking away the legal hunting of lions, bobcat and bear. On the other hand, she said there have been NO comments from the hunting/conservation community in favor of keeping it the way it is. The reason for our silence is that we did not know there was a movement afoot to take the hunting of these three animals away. There has been other indicators going around that this movement is underway, webinars, emails and the like. If you don’t want an emotionally based movement to upset and replace the science based system that the Department has been using then send an email to the Department on their home page under

The comment period ends January 30th. If we can deter the movement now, it is much easier than fighting with legislation or in court. Please send this to all your friends.

PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Department advises hunters who plan to be in the field for the archery-only nonpermit-tag deer seasons — the first of which begins Aug. 20 — to make sure the game management units (GMUs) where they intend to hunt are open.

All hunters should refer to pages 34-35 in the “2021-2022 Arizona Hunting Regulations," as there have been several changes to the season dates and hunt structures. There are several GMUs that are not open to hunting in August, December and/or January; some have been included in the random draw while others have been designated only for the take of antlered white-tailed deer.
