BaliAwake Retreats for Body, Spirit, and Mind arose from the mutual experience of Carol Halpern and Judy Lief in leading Naropa Study Abroad. At the urging of Balinese artists to start our own enterprise – “Because you know the best of Bali and can show it to others” – we developed BaliAwake. We both love and admire the Balinese and their culture and we try to share “the Best of Bali” during our r

etreats. We appreciate the seen and the unseen aspects of Balinese life: Sekala and Niskala. Our lifelong friendships and study with our Balinese friends have opened worlds to us, and we hope to share some of that with you. Carol and Judy, along with their husbands, their friend Jesse, and their Balinese partners Nyoman Astawa and his wife, Putu, founded the lovely Sri Sunari Inn in the rice fields of Ubud.
