Twenty-two-year old Alex from our Ellesmere Port store has been called an "absolute angel" for buying sweets for a boy when his mum's Apple Pay on her phone wouldn't work.

The mum posted on local page Pride in the Port to thank Alex, saying: "He's always lovely, but today my little boy picked some sweets and my card kept declining and without hesitation he paid for them himself. He's an absolute angel. Thank you so much." Lots of customers commented to praise Alex: "He is amazing/ Such a lovely lad and always so helpful", "Always so cheerful and helpful" and "Alex you are a treasure."

Alex, who's worked in the store since 2020, said he didn't want to be reimbursed for the sweets which cost about £5. He said he did it as it brought a smile to the boy's face. The store's customer service manager Lisa said: “Alex is a valued member of our team, always going above and beyond for our customers. We’re always receiving lovely comments about how bubbly and friendly he is. He’s always putting a smile on our customers' faces. He is a credit to our store and we’re very lucky to have him.” Alex has been nominated for an Asda service superstar award for his kind act and also been named colleague of the month.

When security colleague Kelly from our Lowestoft store found out that six-year-old Taliyah needed a special bracelet which would alert her mum Shariece every time she had an epileptic seizure she decided to fundraise to buy her one.

She crocheted two large rabbits and then raffled them off to colleagues and friends on Facebook, raising £200 which was presented to Shariece, Taliyah, her sister Romarnie and grandmother Debbie, who also works in the store. Kelly said: "Everyone knows Debbie here so when I heard that her granddaughter had been newly diagnosed with epilepsy and they needed to few things which would make life easier I wanted to help. During lockdown, because I was bored, I taught myself how to crochet so I decided to make two large bunnies and raffle them off. My colleagues here were wonderful and they all wanted to get involved."

Shariece said: "We can't thank Kelly enough for what she did, bless her, it was so kind. I'd like to thank all the colleagues too and everyone else for buying the raffle tickets. Taliyah was only diagnosed in February this year. It came totally out of the blue, but she's doing okay. The medication is working and she has to keep going to hospital for tests."

Colleagues at our Longwell Green store in Bristol say Sue from the store's pharmacy is "an angel in disguise" after she saved the life of a 92-year-old customer who'd collapsed and stopped breathing.

While a member of the public called 999, Sue immediately started to carry out CPR and thankfully, after a few compressions, got him breathing again. Sue, who's worked for Asda for 21 years, said: "I didn't think about it, the adrenalin just kicked in and I did what I had to do. It was such a relief when he started breathing again."

Sue, along with the customer and an off-duty nurse, stayed with the gentleman until paramedics arrived and took him to Bristol Royal Infirmary. The gentleman's daughter called in the next day to thank Sue and the team and to say he was doing well. The store's customer trading manager Tina Lawrence, who nominated Sue for an Asda service superstar award, said: "Sue stayed calm and reassuring throughout. She did an amazing job. She is an angel in disguise. Well done and thank you for such an amazing job."

Congratulations to Leah, Cai, Laura, Courtney and Daniel who've all been given permanent jobs at our Queensferry store after taking part in a work experience programme to get young adults with a learning disability or autism into paid employment.

Twenty-year-old Leah said she was so proud to work for Asda. She said: “I feel part of the team and I am really enjoying my role. Now I have a paid job I can buy things I like out of my wages and have a lot less stress over money as I did before." And Daniel, who's 26, said:"I have always wanted to work on produce and I am so happy to have a job at Asda on produce. I would like to be a section leader one day."

Since October they've been involved with the Asda and Coleg Cambria's Supported Internship Programme launched in partnership with the charity DFN Project Search, offering full-time, paid work experience roles on the shop floor and in the warehouse.

Adele said: "We've have seen a big change in all our Interns since they joined. They have rotated around a range of departments working with their colleagues on the shop floor to gain the hands-on skills they need. They are trained to use our equipment and can do this with ease and confidence. It shows that programs like this really do make a difference to people within the community and we look forward to welcoming eight more learners this September."

At the grand age of 90 service host Ron from our Trafford Park store is one of Asda's oldest colleagues. He still works four days a week and says he loves coming to work – and lots of customers have been telling us just how much they appreciate him.

When Ron had his big birthday recently colleagues surprised him with presents, chocolates and a card and decorated the checkouts area with balloons. He said: "I love my job and I've no plans to retire – I'm still going strong and I love coming to work. My colleagues here are brilliant, fantastic even. We get on so well. When it was my birthday everyone was so kind. A lot of people don't know how old I am so it came as a surprise when they heard I'm 90. That day will remain firmly in my memory for the rest of my days – it was fantastico! I love having a chat with the customers. We talk about all sorts, including football. I'm a big Man City fan while many of the customers and colleagues here support United! It's all good humoured through as we're a very friendly store here."

Customer Sarah said: "Ron always makes me feel welcome, we chat all the time. When I come to checkouts he makes a beeline for me, I always look out for him." Fellow Asda Trafford Park shopper Alison said: "It’s lovely to come in and see his smiling face. Nothing is too much trouble for Ron, he will help anybody." The store's customer trading manager Liam said: "We are so proud to have Ron as a colleague, he's a true gentleman." And community champion Catharine said: "It's a real privilege to work with Ron. He's amazing and always has a smile on his face." Read his full story here: https://bit.ly/44BwS8c
