🌊 SHIP Happens! My High Seas Adventure with Disney and Royal Caribbean 🚢

This year, I traded Mickey ears for sea legs and embarked on two incredible cruises. First, Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas, where I attended a media preview on the second-largest cruise ship in the world (because the biggest felt like too much too soon!). Then, just two weeks ago, I experienced Disney Cruise Line’s Fantasy. Both were unforgettable—but let me tell you, they couldn’t be more different.

Crowds, Anxiety & “Am I Built for This?”
As someone who struggles with anxiety and hates crowds, being on a ship with thousands of people was overwhelming to imagine. (Yes, I love Disney World, but cruising is a whole other ballgame.) I quickly learned that finding quiet spaces to recharge is key. Once I figured that out, I started to enjoy the ride—literally.

Water Balcony vs. Inside Balcony
On Utopia, we had a VIP inside balcony overlooking the ship. Cool? Sure. But it was HOT, LOUD, and lacked privacy. Picture me hiding behind the blinds so other guests couldn’t peek in! While it was great for events (like performing feet away! 🎤), I realized that next time, it’s all about the water balcony for the peaceful breeze and calming ocean views.

Destinations: Paradise & Disney Magic

Royal Caribbean: Perfect Day at Coco Cay was a dream. Pristine beaches, crystal-clear water, and luxury at its finest. I didn’t want to leave!

Disney: We missed Castaway Cay due to rough waters, but Disney’s new Lookout Point offered a glimpse of magic in the making. It’s still a work in progress but holds so much promise.

When to Cruise: Timing Is Everything
Avoid hurricane season! On the Fantasy, we braved 10-foot waves. Even with a sailing background, I was green in the face. For smoother waters, March through July is your best bet.

It’s a Small World After All
Now for the Disney magic moment: On the Fantasy, we bumped into friends from the next county over in Virginia. Some of you locals might even know them! It was such a fun surprise and proof that it really is a small world after all. Say hello to ! Royal Caribbean vs. Disney: Who Wins?
Both cruise lines offer something unique, but for now, I’m a Royal Caribbean Cruise girlie. I loved the bigger ships, destination variety, and perfect balance of activities for adults and kids.

That said, Disney Cruise Line is pure magic. Their service is unmatched, but as a couple without kids, it felt more family-focused. (Yes, I know I’m ruffling feathers! 🫣) Even my team told me I need a Disney Cruise redo, and I promise I am listening to them.

This December, I’ll be sailing on Disney’s newest ship, The Disney Treasure, for a owner's media preview with my husband, . I’m SO excited to give Disney another shot and share the experience!

🌟 Personalities in the Parks: The Key to a Magical Trip 🌟

You’ve done it! You’ve planned your dream vacation (hopefully with me 😉), saved every penny, packed for weeks, joined all the Facebook groups, read all the blogs, and downloaded every app. You’ve built up so much excitement for your trip… and then reality hits.

The kids are crying, the parents are grouchy, the in-laws are complaining, and you’re just plain exhausted. Suddenly, your “magical” vacation feels anything but.

Friend, I’ve been there. I’ll never forget the time I planned a huge family trip to Animal Kingdom with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins—the whole crew. I had the perfect plan, but no one followed it. Between personalities clashing, distractions at every turn, and my own exhaustion, I ended up crying, grouchy, and (yes, I’ll admit it) yelling at family members! That day taught me a big lesson: understanding the personalities and dynamics of your group can make or break a vacation.

Here are some things to consider before planning your next trip:

✨ Introvert vs. Extrovert
Introverts may need downtime or quiet moments to recharge, while extroverts might thrive in social, high-energy environments. A theme park may drain one person while energizing another. Plan for a balance to ensure everyone feels comfortable.

✨ Do They Really Want to Go?
Are you convincing someone to go with promises that “they’ll love it”? Forcing a trip on someone who isn’t excited can create tension. Be honest with yourself—sometimes this is a toxic trait in planning.

✨ Anxiety and Overstimulation
Crowds, noise, and constant activity can be overwhelming. Know what triggers anxiety for yourself and others, and build in time to rest and recharge.

✨ Crowds
Some people thrive in busy environments, while others feel suffocated. Choose destinations and times of year that match the crowd tolerance of your group.

✨ Finances
Money stress can weigh heavily on a trip. Make sure everyone is comfortable with the budget, and avoid pressure to spend beyond their means.

✨ Energy and Encouragement
