La Scarrupata is a secluded bay that can only be reached by boat. Situated between Ischia Porto and Maronti Beach it’s always popular on our private boat tours as the crystal clear water just makes you want to dive in. Even if you don’t want to swim there’s a restaurant there which serves whatever has been caught in those turquoise waters that same morning. Check out our boat tours here: https://www.ischiareview.com/boat-tours-of-ischia.html

𝐈𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐨: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 🛳

Even if it's only an unofficial title, there's no doubt that Ischia Porto is the island's capital or at least its main town.

Of the six official municipalities (each one called a comune) on the island, 'Ischia' is the main one. I use the quote marks because this name can cause some confusion.

Of course Ischia is the name of the island but it's also the name of the main town (comune).

The five other comuni on the island are Forio, Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno, Barano and Serrara Fontana. Just to make matters even more confusing, Ischia is split into two areas: Ischia Ponte and Ischia Porto (which you can see in the image here). Most visitors to the island arrive first in Ischia Porto, either by ferry or hydrofoil from the mainland (Naples, Sorrento or Capri).

The port in this image is the most recognisable feature of the town while neighbouring Ischia Ponte is famous for its iconic castle: Castello Aragonese.

𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐚 ⛱

Although we're meandering towards the end of January, the summer is looming ever larger and it's exciting to think about some of the best features on the island that you can look forward to.

For sure, one of Ischia's main attractions is its enviable collection of beaches which are spread around its pretty coastline. In total, there are around 20 beaches in Ischia, most of which are blessed with soft, white sand and beautiful turquoise waters to enjoy.

Among the most spectacular is Maronti Beach in Barano, with the most beautiful view from the main road that leads down to it. Read more about Maronti Beach here: ischiareview.com/maronti-beach

Most visitors to Ischia this summer will be attracted by the beaches, the historic towns and the wonderful food.

However, one of the most popular places on the island is the beautiful La Mortella. Situated in the hamlet of Zaro between Forio and Lacco Ameno, Giardini La Mortella is an unusual mix between classical music and botanical gardens.

The gardens are the brainchild of English composer Sir William Walton and were developed further in later years after his death by his Argentinian wife Lady Susana Walton. You can read more here: ischiareview.com/la-mortella-gardens
