6:28 Update: other guests said there was a fire alarm in a service elevator. Emergency responders were on site. We were given the all clear. Still smelled a little smoky when we were walking back in.

5:48 wake-up to a fire alarm at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Smelled like smoke in the hallway. Hoping everything and everyone is ok!!
Please excuse my tired, less than enthused voice. Still trying to process being jolted awake.

Day 7- Budapest— Final Day 😭

We got a little extra sleep today, but we made sure to make it to the ship’s deck to see the beautiful sail into Budapest! Don’t miss this!

If you are a fan or lover of architecture, Budapest is calling. With an a combination of Baroque, Neoclassical, Eclectic and Art Nouveau, this city has something for everyone!

We had two options for tours today a walking food tour through the city or a visit to the Lazar Equestrian Park featuring the famed masters of horsemanship—the Lazar Brothers. I was torn but food was calling… always!

Local guides gave us a peak inside Budapest’s largest indoor market, Central Market Hall… what I would give to have this kind of place near me! We were able to wonder the market and find all sorts of delicious treasures including a booth with everything truffle! We had a private tasting of the most incredible meats, cheeses, vegetables, and spreads seen throughout the market.

Our guides then took us on an immerse tour through the city with a private chocolate making class and ending at an authentic Hungarian restaurant with the most incredible Goulash and Chicken Paprikas (my new favorite!). Our tired feet and full bellies ended the evening back on the ship with a traditional Hungarian dance and musical troupe!

I’ll be honest, one of my fellow travelers mentioned he was a bit hesitate to join our trip because he wasn’t looking for a Goofy breakfast every morning. While I say there is a time and place for a Goofy breakfast (always and anywhere), he said he was extremely pleased that our river cruise was very “unassuming” Disney without compromising the Disney standard we all know and love.

I cannot brag enough on our Adventure Guides who brought the subtle yet warm feelings of Disney Magic to each and every experience. The crew of the AmaLea, I can’t do justice to the level of service and professionalism of this group.

If you are even dreaming about a guided tour experience, look no farther than Adventures By Disney! You will have no regrets!

Ask me for more info! I would love to tell you all the things and more!

Day 6- Slovakia
The trip may be winding down, but there is so much left to see!

We docked overnight in Vienna so adventurers could spend a little more time in this magical city.

The next morning, we were able to spend a little more time in Vienna on our own or head to the wonderful Bratislava, Slovakia!
This picturesque town is full of history and may be cornering the market on gelato! We saw a gelato spot on almost every block!

More fun facts about Maria Theresa is that she loved Bratislava for its proximity to Vienna and for their wine, which I can confirm, it is delicious! (This trip brought to you by Maria Theresa… the woman I never knew I needed to know) 😂

This town has some many charming little features like the golden crowns placed throughout the streets marking the coronation route from the castle to the cathedral, or the cannon ball a resident picked off the street and placed into the façade of his house after Napoleon attacked the city to get out of paying taxes because his residence had too been “under attack.” 😂

One more fun fact about Bratislava was that it was almost renamed Wilson City after WWI… and yes, Wilson after US President Woodrow Wilson. He was so revered for his work towards peace and restoration after WWI, that people in Bratislava had considered the name change, but that push only last about 2 months.

Next we visited probably the most beautiful estate I’ve ever seen, Schloss Hof, which was part of Maria Theresa’s imperial estates. Every area just kept getting better and better!

After a delicious lunch, we toured the georgeous palace. When you look out from the window, the flower garden pattern below is meant to resemble a rug! What?!?

The cellar below was not only great for wine storage but also for growing mushrooms at one time. Just amazing!

There were animals, gardens, hammocks and chairs all around the property to enjoy! This property was a slice right out of heaven!

We set sail tonight on a long haul for our last day in Budapest. I don’t want this week to end!

Day 5- Vienna
Vienna! Oh how I love you. We were here just a few months ago in March, so I was excited to see how this visit may differ.

In the morning, we made our way to the incredibly beautiful Schönbrunn Palace. The palace was built by Empress Maria Theresa who was the mother of Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette lived in the palace until she was 14 when she was married to the King of France Louis XVI.

This visit was way more than just a tour of the palace! We first saw the most incredible marionette show at the Marionette Theatre. I am still in awe that just three people put on the entire production! After the show, the let us try out the Marionettes, and it will not be a future career option for me!

Next we had a mid-morning treat at the Café Residenz on palace grounds when a chef expertly demonstrated how to bake the famous original Viennese apple strudel. My mom got to be an honorary baker complete with certificate and all!

We finished up our visit with a private tour of the palace and the surrounding gardens and grounds. This is one of those places that pictures cannot do it justice!

We then had free time to wonder the streets of Vienna! I took my family to my FAVORITE place in Vienna, Restaurant Meissl & Schadn Wien. They have the absolute best Schnitzel in Vienna (Spencer approved)!

This sounds like a full day adventure so far, right? But there was still more left to do! After a nap and early dinner we had the option to visit a traditional wine house or attend a Mozart & Strauss Concert at Schönbrunn Palace. My mom and I chose the concert and I think we won! The acoustics… the music… the entire experience was nothing short of magical.

My expectations continue to be blown away with these uniquely Disney daily itineraries. Many a naps have been taken while in transport but none of us want to miss a thing! Two more days go!

Day 4- Melk and Krems
This was a packed day with a fun-filled morning starting in Melk, a few hours of scenic cruising down the Danube, and ending the day with a delicious treat in Krems!

We spent the morning with amazing views at the famous Melk Abbey, and man was it breathtaking!

Our next adventure of the morning was something that completely blew me away and no one expected it to be so fun! It was a major highlight thus far! We learned to make apricot jam (with schnapps, OMG!), learned a traditional Austrian dance, had a fishing lesson from local fishermen and sampled fresh trout, I kissed a goat, and tasted local white wines from the region. This was by definitely my favorite experience so far, and I doubt I would have ever experienced something like this outside of this Adventures By Disney River Cruise!

We then set sail to our next port and cruised the Danube for some amazing scenic views of never ending vineyards, castle ruins, and ornate churches.

Our stop in Krems took us to a family apricot farm. The labor is crazy intensive as every apricot is HAND PICKED!! But wow did they know how to diversify their apricots… wines, chutney, jam, jam with horseradish (this was so good!), brandy, liquor, sparkling wine!!! We even got a peak into the family’s earth cellar where they age their wine. The cellar was hand-dug by grandpa into sandstone, so it’s naturally cool enough for the wine. Just wow 🤯

Such a unique, fun, immersive day. This trip has really blown away all my expectations and, there is still more to come! Up next, VIENNA! 😍

Day 3: Linz and Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg, you have my heart. Despite a little rain, it was such a picturesque day in one of the most beautiful Austrian towns.

Salzburg is filled with history including the birth place of Mozart and Christian Doppler (he discovered the Doppler effect) and was one of several filming locations for the Sound of Music!

We started the day choosing between visiting Mondsee (Lake District) or visiting the oldest salt mine in the world. Seriously… it’s been tough to pick!

I chose the salt mine while my family went to Mondsee, and let me just say neither disappointed!

Once we got to the salt mine, we all changed into these very stylist outfits and were taken 750 meters by train inside the mountain where is stays a constant 50°.

As we made our way into the first gallery, we were able to be in 2 places at once as we crossed from Austria into Germany! 2/3 of the mountain is in Germany.

Next we happened upon whiskey barrel! A tradition that goes back centuries, miners age whiskey in barrels in the salt mines for at least 10 years!

To go deeper into the mines, we used wooden slides to whoosh down to lower levels of the mines! It’s no Space Mountain, but it was a blast!!

About 15 miners still actively work on the galleries inside the mine because the pressure from the mountain causes the spaces to move 1-2cm closer each year!

Our day continued with an authentic Austrian lunch and a tour of the beautiful Salzburg with a stop at the stairs and fountain of a little ditty about Do-Re-Mi. We then ended at the birthplace of THE Mozart.

Take a look at the signs outside the shops in town. Most have characteristic features of what’s inside since a lot of people were unable to read.

I may take up residence here!

Day 2: Passau, Germany

We started our day with a walking tour of Passau led by a local expert. We also attempted to make little piggies out of Marzipan…. There’s a reason my career is not as a sculptor. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Next we had the option to Climb the Famous Tree Path Kopfing or visit one of Germany’s oldest breweries, Aldersbacher Brewery. Can you guess which one I chose?

Aldersbacher Brewery is a Bavarian monastery brewery that opened in the 13th century. We first toured the brewery to see the entire brewing process… which has definitely modernized a bit since the early days, and ended up with a large sample of the finished product! This is why I LOVE Adventures By Disney River Cruises! The excursions are INCLUDED and are way smaller groups than you would have on an ocean cruise! This allows for more unique experiences!

Up next, Austria!
