150 Years From Now

150 years from now, none of us reading this post today will be alive. 70 percent to 100 percent of everything we are fighting over right now will be totally forgotten. Underline the word, TOTALLY.

If we go back memory lane to 150 years before us, that will be 1872, none of those that carried the world on their heads then are alive today. Almost all of us reading this will find it difficult to picture anybody's face of that era.

Pause for a while and imagine how some of them betrayed their relatives and sold them as slaves for a piece of mirror. Some k*||ed family members just for a piece of land or tubers of yam or cowries or for a pinch of salt. Where is the yam, cowries, mirror, or salt that they were using to brag? It may sound funny to us now, but that is how s*||y we humans are sometimes, especially when it comes to money, power or trying to be relevant.

I remember those days in my secondary school, how some people fought and did so many unimaginable things just to have their names shortlisted among those to be made school Prefects. Ordinary school Prefects o!

But today nobody in that school right now remembers that I even schooled there despite my popularity then. Now, imagine what happens after 150 years!

Even when you claim the internet age will preserve your memory, take Michael Jackson as an example. Michael Jackson died in 2009, just 13 years ago.

Imagine the influence Michael Jackson had all over the world when he was alive. How many young people of today remember him with awe, that is if they even know him? In 150 years to come, his name, when mentioned, will not ring any bell to a lot of people.

Let us take life easy, nobody will get out of this world alive. . . The land you are fighting and ready to kill for, somebody left that land, the person is dead, rotten, and forgotten. That will also be your fate. In 150 years to come, none of the vehicles or phones we are using today to brag will be relevant. Biko, take life easy!

Let love lead. Let’s be genuinely happy for each other. No malice, no backbiting. No jealousy. No comparison. Life is not a competition. At the end of the day, we will all transit to the other side. It is just a question of who gets there first, but surely we will all go there someday.

Why shouldn't kids watch adult stuff?

I am the best person to answer this as I have been carrying this trauma my entire life and if you have a kid at home, please read the answer till the end. I don’t care about upvotes and views, if this can change one kid’s life, I can consider my life successful.

It was when I was around eight years old. One afternoon my Dad was at work and my mom was sleeping. I was playing around all by myself as my siblings had the afternoon shift for school while I had the morning shift. Feeling bored, I turned on the TV, and an old Indian movie starring Sanjeev Kumar and Vidya Sinha “Tumhare Liye” was on.

Those who watched this movie might know how dark this movie is. This movie is about reincarnation. Characters of the movie remember their past life multiple times. They not only long for their loved ones from a past life, but they also cry, they mourn for them in the movie.

I watched this entire movie in disbelief and pain. I thought of every single person known to me and realized that they would be gone one day. Imagine, an eight-year-old who hasn’t (and couldn’t ) lived without her parents for a single day worrying about them in such an extreme way. I cried for hours like anything. My childhood wasn’t the same. My innocence wasn’t the same. My sense of security was gone and I felt so many emotions that my mind wasn’t ready for.

That evening I asked my Mom about reincarnation and asked how can I find her at my next birth. My mother always treated me more as a friend than a daughter. Instead of explaining to me that this all is baseless and shouldn’t worry me, she told me that I won’t remember anybody after this life as there is a ritual known as ‘Kapal Kriya’ during which memories are taken out of the head before cremation. It made the matter worse. It added to my trauma. Since that day, I became overly sensitive about everybody around me. Growing up, I realized that watching that one movie has affected all my decision for my entire life. Since then, I plead with parents around me to regulate what kids can watch. It should not necessarily be p**n, horror movies, or explicit scenes that affect them, anything for which their mind is not ready yet is going to leave a lifelong impact on that impressionable age.

During a study at Harvard in the 1950s, Dr. Curt Richter placed rats in a pool of water to test how long they could tread water.

On average they'd give up and sink after 15 minutes.

But right before they gave up due to exhaustion, the researchers would pluck them out, dry them off, let them rest for a few minutes - and put them back in for a second round.

In this second try - how long do you think they lasted?

Remember - they had just swam until failure only a few short minutes ago...

How long do you think?

Another 15 minutes?

10 minutes?

5 minutes?

No!

60 hours!

That's not an error.

That's right! 60 hours of swimming.

The conclusion drawn was that since the rats BELIEVED that they would eventually be rescued, they could push their bodies way past what they previously thought impossible.

I will leave you with this thought:

If hope can cause exhausted rats to swim for that long, what could a belief in yourself and your abilities, do for you?

Remember what you’re capable of. Remember why you’re here. "
