G' Morning to all of you! We hope you all are well on this beautiful fall morning.
We wanted to post an update! The Barn has interwebs again (and they graciously upgraded the service)!
Also, we're being told that access to The Barn is improving, and that 64, at least up to the road to the Barn is open.

Some things to note though. Hendersonville is open for business!! They want you to visit (and so do we)!
BUT - we are all still in recovery. Things aren't as you may remember. There is still a lot of damage. We want you to visit, but we are asking for a lot of understanding and patience while the area rebuilds.

This all being said, we've opened December back up for bookings. Come and see us! Time to book your trip!
Remember, you can book through Airbnb, but you can book directly through us as well!

So.. Some mixed news today. The town of Hendersonville announced they are ready for visitors again!! We are so happy to hear this!!
The down side - Rt 64 through Ednyville toward the Barn is still limited traffic. So while downtown Hendersonville proper is receiving visitors, the outskirts arent there yet.
We are holding some hope that maybe we can start hosting again in December. Cross your fingers for us! Hoping once we do open back up, you all fill our calendar!!
This has been a rough year. We could use a bit of good news!

After spending some time here at the Barn and around the area.. we just can't justify opening back up to guests just yet. We've talked to many people.. Locals, other hosts, Henderson County tourism board.. they aren't ready here. Not yet. Authorities arent even letting people down this road, unless you are either a local, or have business here (i.e. DOT, utility, vendor, etc). We've made the decision to hold off allowing guests for now. We plan to re-evaluate in a few weeks.
In other news, it is absolutely amazing to see how much this community, and people from all over have pulled together to help WNC recover. Truly heart warming just doesn't quite cover it.
We will recover!!

So... things aren't looking great in Hendersonville. The Barn still doesn't have power, and the neighbor is telling us it's gonna be several weeks. Never mind interwebs. The Barn is accessible, but they are saying over and over again that extra traffic in the area is not helpful. Right now, as reservations are canceled, we are blocking off the dates. We don't know if we will be able to let people back in by December at this point.
We will keep you all posted as things continue to develop.

All.. I wish I had better news. Although the Barn is still standing, much around it isn't. Currently, Highway 64 in both directions is either blocked, or completely washed out. Many are isolated, and there is a lot happening. Basically we are being told to stay out of that end of the state.
Relief work is in progress. I'm hoping to fly some relief work myself later this week. If you know of an outlet to donate to, please do. People in SC, TN, NC and I'm sure other places are suffering.
We have no idea when things will get back to normal. Stay tuned.

Well.. It sounds like the Barn has survived the hurricane. Can't say as much for the area around the Barn. Lotsa road closures, land and mud slides, washouts, etc. No power or interwebs at the Barn. Hoping to get back to normal soon, but we expect it's gonna be a bit. More to follow.

We finally made it out to The Barn after personal events and scheduling kept us away since February.
When we got here, we found that the quilt square that had been on the Barn for several years was in poor shape and in danger of falling. We got the new one up today!
Also seeing the orchards are gearing up for harvest season, and fall events are starting soon! Check our calendar (especially our direct-booking site https://book.hostfully.com/the-barn-at-slick-rock ) for openings for Fall!

As many of you know, we've been using Hostfully for our Guidebook to give you info about the Barn, and our favorite places. Well, we've taken that partnership a BIT further, and have expanded the Barn out to other platforms (Vrbo, booking.com, etc) including our own Direct-Booking site! That's right!!
Now you can book with us directly versus going to the 'platforms' and paying their fees!! As a matter of fact, we MAY be putting together a discount code to entice you a little further!

I miss our little peaceful oasis!

So, it's time for some updates! We just spent two very productive weeks at The Barn doing a little spring cleaning getting some updates done and we have a pretty big change to show you! We know a lot of you loved the big garden tub but honestly, we didn't. Recently it started leaking around the surround, and it resulted in a little damage. We decided it was time for a change. The first pic you see is how you all remember it. The rest are what we transformed it to! We also updated the wireless, so connectivity won't be nearly as spotty! We had 3 machines running VPN on it, plus the Roku! Unfortunately, it's still DSL, so not fast, but at least the wifi is better! Time to book your trip yet?
