We finally made it out to The Barn after personal events and scheduling kept us away since February.
When we got here, we found that the quilt square that had been on the Barn for several years was in poor shape and in danger of falling. We got the new one up today!
Also seeing the orchards are gearing up for harvest season, and fall events are starting soon! Check our calendar (especially our direct-booking site https://book.hostfully.com/the-barn-at-slick-rock ) for openings for Fall!

As many of you know, we've been using Hostfully for our Guidebook to give you info about the Barn, and our favorite places. Well, we've taken that partnership a BIT further, and have expanded the Barn out to other platforms (Vrbo, booking.com, etc) including our own Direct-Booking site! That's right!!
Now you can book with us directly versus going to the 'platforms' and paying their fees!! As a matter of fact, we MAY be putting together a discount code to entice you a little further!

Just a PSA if you're going to be visiting the NC mountains soon - Bears are starting to wake up from their long winter nap, and are looking for food! It's a little scarce because their normal food sources aren't back yet, so be bear aware! Don't leave trash or food outside, or you might end up face-to-face with one!

We have MORE great news for The Barn!

FALL COLOR IS COMING!
Here’s a handy map produced by the Appalachian State University Dept of Biology to get us thinking about the changes to come. This map differs from most other such maps because it combines the effects of both elevation and latitude on fall color, whereas most other maps simply use elevation alone. It is only an approximation.

SEPT 25th - OCT 2nd ⬇️
At the highest elevations, close to 6,000 feet there is some color, but it's often very spotty and muted. The views from these locations will be mostly green, since the areas viewed are lower elevations. Areas that turn early in this date and elevation range include Graveyard Fields and Rough Ridge.

OCT 2nd - 9th ⬇️
Peak time for areas above 5,000 feet. This would include: Clingmans Dome, Grandfather Mountain, Mount Mitchell, Waterrock K**b and Graveyard fields (the first location on the Parkway to turn) and higher elevations of The Blue Ridge Parkway (between Asheville and Cherokee) and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

OCT 9th - 16th ⬇️
Peak time for elevations from 4,000 - 5,000 feet. This would include almost all Blue Ridge Parkway locations and the majority of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as well. Included in this elevation are the Boone and Blowing Rock areas.

OCT 16th - 23rd ⬇️
Peak time for lower elevations, from 3,000 - 4,000 feet. This would include places like: Pisgah National Forest which includes Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls, Dill Falls, Wildcat Falls, and many other waterfalls. Other ares include Linville Gorge, Nantahala Gorge, Maggie Valley, and Cataloochee Valley.

OCT 23rd - 30th ⬇️
Peak time for elevations from 2,000 feet - 3,000 feet. This would include: The cities of Asheville, Brevard, Waynesville, Cherokee, and many others. Places of interest include Dupont State Forest and Biltmore Estate, and Cades Cove.

OCT 30th - NOV 6th ⬇️
Peak time for remaining elevations, including Gatlinburg, TN, Chimney Rock NC, Lake Lure and remaining lower elevation mountains. This includes Chimney Rock as well, a great place to see Fall color.

So.. I wanted to provide a bit of news. We have been forced to make a tough decision for The Barn. Up until now, we have not had to impose a pet fee for our guests with the hope that they would show our place the respect and courtesy it deserves. Recent events have forced us to rethink this. Guests have been taking our generous nature and love for dogs for granted, knowing full well we didn't have a fee. They have been leaving messes, not cleaning up after their pets, bringing large numbers of pets, etc.
To that end, we have made the decision to impose a pet fee. If we cannot get that to curb the issues we have been seeing, we will eliminate our guests ability to bring their furry family at all.
Please understand, we don't make this decision lightly, and we are not happy that it has to happen, but we don't see a way around this.
Current bookings and future bookings will be subject to the fee effective immediately. Our apologies for the inconvenience, but when you have people that let their pets tear things up and p*e on furniture, a line has to be drawn. If you are guilty of one of the infractions mentioned - well done. This is your doing.
