Chiñisiri "The unknown sanctuary"

In the Livitaca lands, in the heart of the Ccora community, we find a pre-Hispanic cemetery. A sanctuary, a meeting point between the past and the present. We invite you to learn more about its history.

Chiñisiri is a pre-Hispanic necropolis located 3,726 meters above sea level in the Livitaca district. The complex is within the territories of the Unión Ccora community.

In 2011 Valuiz Espinoza, curator of archaeological sites in Livitaca, found the mummy of a girl.

"It was by chance: I stepped on and as the stone moved, we uncovered it and there it was," Espinoza mentioned to the Ministry of Culture.

The small mummy, in good condition, was in one of the 370 chullpas that make up the pre-Inca complex, discovered at the end of 2009.

It is worth noting that Chiñisiri is made up of surprising late-horizon funerary structures, made up of chullpas and circular and rectangular niches, covered in red and white.

Chiñisiri is a word in Aymara that means "where the bats lie" a very mysterious and almost dark concept that alludes to its archaeological history.
