This is from last week but here is our fearsome encounter with wildlife while in Great Smokie Mountain National Park!
Hello from Utila, Honduras! We have been diving aggressively for the last 8 days and loving every minute of it! After a few days of unsuccessfully snorkeling with spinner dolphins who just swam away we finally encountered a pod of much more social bottle-nose dolphins! I didn't have my GoPro unfortunately but I was able to borrow some footage from a friend. Not pictured in this video; the four dolphins that took a liking to Kristen and I and swam in circles less than 3 feet from us for 10 minutes while we maintained eye contact! (which they enjoy)
Hakuna matata
Throwback to that time in the Amazon where I ate a worm while Kristen looked on in disgust. I couldn't do it live so I had them grilled. It still made me feel like Timon and Pumbaa!
The beautiful underwater world of Providencia!
Perfect song came on as we crossed the state line... totally not staged at all. #advanture #thelongestweekend #california #herewecome

One of the guys at our hostel discovered this gem. Battle of Nations. Each country fields a team of fighters in full armor, with real weapons and they fight it out for global supremacy! You score a "kill" by knocking someone to the ground. It was absolutely ridiculous! No re-enactment here, people were getting carried off the field. It was one of the most intense sporting events we've ever seen! Of course the beer and mead were flowing as well!
Probably one of the strangest things we've encountered yet. Bedazzled bugs with leashes so that when you clip it to your shirt, it becomes a living brooch...
It's been a while since we posted but here is an update! We finished diving 3 days in Cozumel and it was excellent! We managed to find all the highlights including Spanish lobster, giant lobster, king crab, splendid toadfish, pipe seahorse, nurse shark, and we were lucky enough to spot an eagle ray even though they are suppose to have migrated. Combine that with amazing visibility (20m-40m) and it was an awesome trip! Here is a video of the ray which also showcases the crazy vis! Our itinerary for the next two weeks is Tulum-Valladolid-Izamal-Merida. We loved Cozumel but now we are excited to get out of the expensive resort areas and find some real Mexico!
The infamous Sipidan! It's an oceanic island with a lot of reef at 5m-10m and then 600m drop off all around. They run a permitting system so only 120 divers per day are allowed. It is considered by some to be the best dive site in the world. The visibility was between 30m and 50m on every dive! Enjoy this video of our best day of diving yet!
Mabul dive day #2 - highlights include an amazing Flamboyant Cuttlefish and a rare group of four ornate ghost pipefish! What's your favourite creature?!
Mabul diving Day #1 - highlights include a very friendly remora, the most adorable baby cuttlefish (about the size of a grape!), a spotted eagle ray, and a cuttlefish sticking out its incredibly long tongue. Identity of this sassy cuttlefish is under debate - divers, what's your vote? It's pretty big and plain-coloured to be Flamboyant, but our dive guide swears it is.
Had an awesome time in Mulu! Two action packed days of caving and rainforest trekking. Day one we did a canopy walk and went adventure caving, featuring hand size spiders and snakes that catch bats out of the air. Day two we trekked through the world's largest cave and through the rainforest to a waterfall. On the way back we watched as 2-3 million bats flew out at dusk.
Finally broke down and bought a GoPro with our impending Sipidan dives on the horizon! Our first use came from our Miri dives, and although the diving isn't the best, we saw an awesome group of 10 cuttle fish gathering for mating season!
Completed the NZ hat trick! Skydive, canyon swing, and now bungy!
February 18, 2015 was a strong candidate for best day ever! We went out hoping to swim with wild dolphins in Kaikoura, NZ. With incredible luck, we came across a pod of at least SIX HUNDRED playful dolphins! In the video, you can hear Peter singing and making noises to peak their interest, and you can hear them calling back to him. What an incredible experience! Until now, I thought the only way to swim with dolphins was in captivity in the Caribbean. This is SO MUCH better!
Adorable baby NZ fur seals playing in a rock pool! Next stop: Blenheim for some serious wine tasting!
There were men chasing me all over the beach on Valentine's Day! This one gave up pretty easily...
(You can't see me but I'm just off camera and he's heading right for me! You can probably hear me panicking)
Peter's turn on the Canyon Swing! Less fuss, more drama. Quite the bucket list moment!
Canyon Swing in Queenstown! WARNING: video contains coarse language, viewer discretion is advised. Sorry mom. These guys are well-versed in the art of psychological torment!
Cruising 90 mile beach (it's 55 miles...) The bus is doing about 100km an hour. On a beach. The dark patches are dark sand, not bumps, the whole this is actually glass smooth!
