Today in Greece and Cyprus is celebrating the Katarà Deftèra meaning "clean" Monday or Green Monday.That means fasting period of 40 days (Lent), which begins today, which will take the Orthodox faithful straight until the Friday that precedes Palm Sunday.The Greeks and Cypriots usually spend the day outdoors having picnics and eating a wide variety of foods based on vegetables, fruits or seafood .The typical dishes which we can find at the table are taramosalata, fava, dolmades, grilled octopus, mussels, lentils, tahini, humus etc.🐙And the main food of today ,reigns over all:-lagàna a short and crumbless bread, baked exclusively on the occasion of the first Monday of Lent, to accompany the dishes just described . Green Monday is an occasion to celebrate outdoors also the arrival of the spring season, with the launch of colorful kites in the sky , because today there is also a Bank holiday. dessert of the day is halvas.
