We look forward to when we can gather in San Miguel de Allende again, to be surrounded by vibrant, gorgeous colours, friends and delicious food 💖
We’re thinking of our family, friends and all of the people in San Miguel de Allende as we get through this global crisis. ⠀

⠀
We support slow Sundays here in San Miguel de Allende ✨⠀
⠀
Walking tours of historical and significant places, and places that are just simply beautiful. Just one of the ways we like to spend our time in one of our favourite cities.⠀

to us creating our own hats and floral headpieces for the Catrina Parade during the 2018 Day of the Dead celebrations!⠀

We hired local professional makeup artists to transform us into Catrina and Catrin and joined the merriment in the massive parade on Nov 1 💀⠀

oh, and also that they were growing on the rooftop patio ABOVE the rooftop patio where we enjoyed an intimate, private welcome dinner for our 2018 trip. With a local guitarist strumming and singing + a sunset view overlooking San Miguel de Allende. It was simply marvellous ✨⠀

We look in all nooks, corners and crannies. We don’t want to miss a single thing. Look at this 18th century stone!⠀⠀

⠀⠀
So, about those doors 🤩⠀
⠀
A good amount of our time in San Miguel de Allende is spent walking the cobbled streets gazing at the architecture, colours and foliage. There are countless reasons it's considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world and we don't want to miss a glimpse. ⠀
⠀
⠀
One of our favourite places to spend time is Parque Benito Juárez. Filled with beautiful walking paths, fountains, trees, plants, flowers and foliage, with game areas and quiet spots for contemplation, it’s a magical oasis just a short walk from the city centre. ⠀⠀

Who here also has an obsession with doors?! ⠀
⠀
What we’ve discovered in San Miguel > colourful, private courtyards and gardens are often hiding behind these magical doors. ⠀
⠀
We’re mad for SMA architecture and the common use of courtyard living space. Stunning open air rooms that flow beautifully to inside. ⠀

Mondays, right?! You should have a margarita!
"For the fourth year in a row, Travel + Leisure magazine chose San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, as the top city travel destination in Mexico."
uh. yeah. that's what we've been sayin' ;)
https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/san-miguel-best-destination-in-mexico/
Travel + Leisure magazine readers again chose the city as the top city travel destination, but it fell into second place on the list of the World's Best.

Happy Birthday to Frida Kahlo!
Considered one of Mexico’s greatest artists, her artwork and life was dedicated to preserving and celebrating indigenous Mexican culture. In turn she became wildly popular and revered, the love for her is strong. You will see the devotion to her through artisan’s work in markets and shops throughout San Miguel de Allende.
This artwork is not hers, and we don’t have the artist’s name but it is a very tiny painting of Frida Kahlo (being done by a teeny tiny calaca).
So WE think the food is amazing in SMA, here’s an article raving the gastronomic delights of this wonderful city ✨

It’s hard to believe now, as church bells peal boldly through its immaculate cobbled streets and well-heeled tourists buy contemporary art from cool Oaxacan galleries, but the best city in the world... almost wasn’t.
Along the Sculpture Walk at El Charco del Ingenio you’ll pass the iron “Horse” by David Kestenbaum, donated by his mother, Artist Mai Onno. Such a beautiful sculpture set against the already stunning views 🙌
A visit to El Charco is always time well spent - for some, soul and heart enriching ✨

A quiet morning coffee moment in SMA
We left a welcoming goodie basket in each of our guests’ casitas, and of course there was bag of freshly ground coffee from a local roaster included ☕️
This article from national geographic travel takes us right back to those morning moments ✨

Our visit to San Miguel de Allende included the option to jump right in and join the Catrina Parade on Nov 1 💀
We hired local professional makeup artists to transform us into Catrina and Catrin. It was the beginning of a magical night ✨
"The arts are still central to the appeal of San Miguel, where the gallery-to-resident ratio might exceed that of Santa Fe, New Mexico (which it has more than a little in common with). Over the past decade, however, San Miguel has also blossomed as a gastronomic hub, thanks to the arrival of destination restaurants like Moxi and Áperi."
💯 among the top reasons we adore San Miguel > the tremendous number of inspiring galleries and incredible restaurants serving insanely delicious food 👏

Thanks to first-class restaurants, outstanding hotels, and beguiling architecture, the city has become popular with visitors, who arrive in search of its ineffable magic.
