5 FDs raced at Port Dinorwic during the weekend 16/17 September 2017 in superb sailing conditions! The three (two former) FD National champions battled it out on their home (very tidal!) waters. Strang & Alex convincingly won the fifth race (part of Barts Bash) and the overall trophy for the weekend. There is talk of the 2018 Nationals being in N Wales next year...dates to be confirmed..

Congratulations to Alistair Mclaughlin and Mark Taylor on winning the FD British Championship after close racing with Jon Williams and Alex Rogers who finished on equal points but were unable to sail the last race due to injury in a capsize on the first day. Best newcommer was Ricky Harris who crewed for Richard Phillips and finished third.

Many thanks to Hayling Island Sailing Club for superb race management, excellent support boat crews who braved the stormy weather and the catering and bar staff who served up excellent food and drinks!

FD Nationals at Hayling Island saw very strong winds on Thursday 24 knots gusting 31 with 2 races, Friday no racing as even stronger! Today 4 races sailed in light winds mainly non trapezing. Richard Westwood sadly passed away on 10 October 2016 . The picture below shows him celebrating his win in the British Nationals 1992. He campaigned a series of FDs from the 1970s at numerous International FD events and FD World Championships. He introduced many people, as his crew, to the world of international sailing and tributes and testimony to this were made at his funeral on 28 October 2016. Our condolences go to Yvonne.
