📍 Fort Chambray - Ghajnsielem, Gozo
Fort Chambray, also known as Fort Chambrai, is a bastioned fortress situated in the Għajnsielem area on the island of Gozo, Malta. Constructed in the mid-18th century by the Order of Saint John, it is located in a region called Ras it-Tafal, nestled between the port of Mġarr and Xatt l-Aħmar. The original intention was for the fort to serve as the central part of a new city, which was intended to become the island's capital, replacing the Cittadella. However, this plan was never brought to fruition.
The fort played a role during the French invasion of Malta in 1798 and later functioned as both a military hospital and a mental institution. Currently, Fort Chambray is redeveloped into a luxury accommodation facility.
