C'est magnifique! What a great thing! Perhaps we might try this in the U.S.

We cannot seem to get rid of smokers who discard their butts. BUT, this seems like a possible solution!

Six rooks have been specially trained to pick up cigarette butts and rubbish. They are rewarded with food for their efforts.

We began our recent Normandy/Paris escorted trip with a stop in Giverny to see the magic of Monet's gardens. Despite the rain, it was still beautiful and many thanks to Laura for making this video! Such a treasure!

So looking forward to our Normandy/Paris group tour in 60 days!!! To be in Normandy for D-Day is such a privilege.

I always loved having lunch on the terrace of La Samaritaine when it was a department store. The vista was amazing to Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Eiffel!!!

Then it closed almost a decade ago and has sat vacant. Truly a piece of gold waiting for its next lease on life. Apparently the building will have a very elegant lease on life and definitely SOLID GOLD!!!! YIKES!!!! Costly yes, but consider the names in the project ---Moët (think Champagne), Hennessy (think Cognac), and Louis Vuitton (think purses) and you'll see that we need not worry about a shortage of funds!

The LVMH group, owner of the Samaritaine department store in Paris, stated that redevelopment and renovation work on the building is advancing according to schedule, after being held up by court order for nearly three years.

Very sad about the attack in Barcelona yesterday. I was in Normandy escorting a group when 9/11 happened and the pain and turmoil that I felt for loved ones at home in the U.S. was being sent to me in France where I remained for another week (shown nothing but love and care from the dear French people). Praying for peace now. Worldwide peace.

I want to join the people of France in thanking Gene Petrin for his service to our country and the world. He is truly An American Hero. Yesterday, he was awarded the French Legion of Honour. This award is the highest French order for military and civil merits, established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.

I am happy to know his daughter Debbie and what a thrill for her to see this award bestowed upon her 95 year old Dad. I learned that he was born in Quebec, Canada (where I was born) and he is a naturalized citizen of the United States. (I was naturalized 50 years after him!)

It's impossible to fathom what these humble heroes survived, but how thankful I am for their courage.

Kouign Aman (pronounce it "Queen A-mawn") Decadent! They look benign, but are lethally outstanding! My favorite ones are at Ladurée in Paris! Zero chocolate, but STILL my husband's favorite pastry in France!

They hail from Brittany -- where they're twice the size when you get one! :). However, special pâtisseries in France offer them! Très délicieux!

It's official! The Tour de France 2016 will start at the Mont-Saint-Michel! What a landmark (second most visited place in France after La Tour Eiffel!). Hope you'll let A Paris Travel arrange a tour that will include the Mont St. Michel!

1066...and all that! We all learned about the Norman Conquest in school and on this day in 1066, the Normans, under William the Conqueror, defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings! The story is recounted in the amazing Bayeux Tapestry that is displayed in Bayeux (Normandy). The embroidered cloth is 215 feet long (impressive, right?) and gives details about the conquest that we'd not have were it not for the phenomenally amazing workmanship in the fabric.

Strikes are such a "way-of-life" in France. How very frustrating when we arrive to tour guests and learn of a strike closure. In this case, September 22nd was strike day at the Musée d'Orsay (my personal favorite museum in Paris!). Love how the reason is "social conflict"!!! There seems to be some irony in the cancellation that day of the private exhibition entitled "Splendors and Miseries". (Rather like dealing with strikes in Paris...just sayin'!)

On this day in 1992, the French narrowly ratified the Maastricht Treaty on European Union. It "reflected the serious intentions of all countries to create a common economic and monetary union" and it has surely been seriously challenged and questioned during the past 23 years!

What a problem! I imagine the Parisians are finding something in the way of a baguette to enjoy this month. (Actually most of the Parisians are gone in August anyway!!!!) I always love how Parisians have particular breads that they enjoy more than others! Pour moi? For me? I've never found a baguette that I didn't just love! Americans glom down on them the moment they're put on the table! Délicieux!
