Children are often more enthusiastic about house “chores” then adults anticipate. In Montessori philosophy we call this area of mastery/innate urge to master daily life tasks, “Practical Life”.

A quick google on Practical Life activities at home and you’ll find endless fun, age-appropriate, easy-to-make “works” (another Montessori verbiage, bc work IS play, and play IS work \(^o^)/~ in Montessori education, children attain and master skills with repeated exploration and practice, just like adults).

Here 3 y.o. Wick took it upon himself to gather the appropriate (height + stability) chair for the sink, the right tools (🧼 + 🧽) and offered to clean up the cutting board after cooking together. *tho perhaps we could’ve reminded again to roll his sleeves up 😅 but he was so knee-deep in his 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘, how could we force something so menial as a rolled>wet sleeves on him ? ✨🥰

When Montessori starts early in life, you can expect children to desire to clean and maintain their environment as you do 🤗

Working with water is essential to a child's innate desire to learn its qualities. A child who can and has satisfied her innate needs will be a happy and thriving child.

These kids play better than most adults!

There have been links between creativity and problem-solving abilities (Moyles, 1999) and increasing the ability to “think outside of the box”. If this is true then creativity is, therefore, significant if we are to encourage and help children be an independent and productive citizen of society.

Whether they are coached or grew up with musician parents, clearly their musicality is innate. But I can't imagine the parents were not a part of what fostered the autonomy and confidence these "children" exhibit.

It's like the Montessori sayings, "Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world."

Very Montessori and very necessary; today's children need an outlet to stay in tune with their inner selves.

Anyone growing up today can attest having the tool of meditation as part of their repertoire is extremely useful 🙏🏽 in dealing with the various curve balls life tends to throw at you.
