Thank you Peeps! Another special evening at Sach's Bridge last night. Very special people coming to hear Miss Betty including someone who has been on her tour every year since her daughter was a little girl. Last night she brought that daughter as a young woman, now a pre-med student. Another person who came to my tour bringing 12 other folks with her because a peep who is her co-worker told her about Miss Betty. And all the wonderful others who joined me. God has truly blessed me!

I am always reminded how lucky I've been to be a storyteller in Gettysburg for the past 16 years because of the very special folks who go on my tours. Some come every year, like Mike who was so upset that he couldn't come last year at Halloween because all the hotels were booked. Like those who've come and brought their kids whom I've been privileged to watch grow up. James who brings a group of high school students each summer from Nebraska to hear history told in a different way. And then again last night when someone told me they'd pay for my gas money because I live 50 miles from Gettysburg. I've tried to retire for the last 5 years, but at 70 I find I just can't give up hugging my folks after our tours. Thank you to all my peeps, MISS BETTY LOVES YOU AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

TODAY I HAVE JUST FINISHED A TOUR THAT I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR OVER A DECADE WITH A NEW GROUP OF SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS FROM NEBRASKA JOINING ME EVERY YEAR.. IT IS SO NICE TO HAVE YOUNG PEOPLE JOIN AN OLD LADY STORYTELLER TEACHING HISTORY IN A WAY THAT IS MAKING THEM LISTEN AND ENJOY LEARNING. NOT ONE HELD ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE IN THEIR HANDS DURING THE TOUR, AND THEY ALL SAID THEY HAD A REALLY GOOD TIME. ONCE AGAIN IT HAS RENEWED MY HOPE FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY. Every year at Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland there is a moving tribute to the solders, both Blue & Gray, who were killed, MIA, or wounded in the Battle of Antietam. Over 1,000 volunteers put out 23,000 luminaries representing each soldier covering the hills of the Battlefield in straight lines. It is held the first Saturday in December.
Last night I waited with hundreds of caring people in a line of cars stretching several miles with await of 2 hours or more to get on the Battlefield and drive through this moving memorial to all those who gave their lives for what they believed to be a just cause.
As a nation we need to learn that we have been torn apart by the wages of war that took part on our fields, in our towns, and in our homes where many soldiers were cared for by people just like you and I. We cannot let this happen again!
Thank you to all the people who made this solemn and hallowed moment possible in a little town called Sharpsburg, Maryland. May we reach back into history to save the future of this country.

As a storyteller, I am Miss Betty, a woman from the hills of Virginia who has come to Gettysburg after the Battle in search of her lost husband. She is from a time and place where civil differences have caused the destruction of her country and have cost tens of thousands of people their lives, and she hopes that it never happens again.

And after she steps out of character and her stories have been told, she steps into the modern day world of wars that she could never have imagined. She still sees civil unrest not only in her own country, but now she is able to see it around the world with the touch of a button. She wonders what has changed, what have people learned?

The reason that Miss Betty tells her stories is because she wants this to be a better world than the one she came from. She wants us to understand that ALL human life is important.

The beauty of what I do is seeing the faces of those who come back to see me. On my tour last night was someone who hadn't been with me for ten years. This is a person who saw me once for a brief time, heard my stories, and remembered me for ten years. This is why I tell stories so that this will be one of them.

Miss Betty wants to thank all those who attended her special "Tribute to the Soldiers" tour making it part of their re-enactment week in Gettysburg, and she wants to share with you something she told her group at the end of the tour. She said, "When Miss Betty was in Gettysburg on the battlefield looking for her husband, walking among the mutilation of the soldiers,praying that he was not among them, she wasn't noticing the Blue & the Gray. She wasn't thinking about who were the winners and the losers for when there is that kind of suffering and loss there are no winners. She was thinking "How did we get to the point in this country where we allowed tens of thousands of our citizens to be killed in such a way?" At what point did we become enemies and no longer Americans? And she told the little children in her group that night, that we should never let this happen again.

With all our personal information being swapped among corporations, ie: all the junk mail that we receive everyday in the mail that is no longer addressed to occupant, but rather is using our first, last name and home address, faceless callers using the first 3 numbers of our telephone number to get us to answer, internet ads that suspiciously pop up after we have purchased something similar, etc, etc, I wanted you to know that I have never given out personal information on any of my peeps. To shamelessly use people for marketing purposes has been going on for decades, but the internet has introduced a new dimension to the ability for instant contact of billions of customers which has magnified the situation, and brought us to our knees.

It will be interesting to see if any of you receive this post. If you do receive it, if you could please respond so at least I know that I have gotten through to those I care about. Just know that Miss Betty loves and respects everyone who comes on my tours.... and you know who you are.....

Our Story

Miss Betty, renown storyteller, paranormal, and living history interpreter has been hosting ghost tours in Gettysburg for over a decade. Her “Spirit of Sach’s Bridge” tour meets at Sach’s Bridge and walks to 5 locations in that area. That tour is held on Saturday evenings. The “Spirit of Sach’s Bridge/Haunted Barn Tour” is a private tour held Mon-Thurs. This tour visits two location, starting at Sach’s Bridge. Make your own tour of 4 -10 people and enjoy times with your friends and guests exclusively. Both tours are 2 hours long.
