Gorgeous bed covering woven on a back-strap loom in 3 pieces, likely from hand-spun/dyed alpaca - and joined with very nice stitching- natural dyes - cochineal - WOW! Love the large bag hanging behind it too. We are often on a PUCHKA tour when Ruraq Maki occurs which is a fabulous experience with artists from all across the country exhibiting and selling their work..

Our lovely friends from the Huarcaya family of Ayacucho and their fabulous work. Don Jesus is all bundled up - July in Lima is cold; that explains it ;) I'm told by friends who have always lived in the Andes that when they travel to Lima they get nausea - just as some of us who live on the coast in our home countries get headaches when we travel to the Andes - only for a little while - tea made from coca leaves or/and chewing them, as the Andeans do, helps as does drinking lots of liquids - other than beer or any other alcohol ;) PS. the Coca leaf is NOT a drug. It becomes a drug only when it is converted to co***ne. One does NOT get high from chewing the leaf. Nor is the leaf addictive.

Our beloved friends Elena Nunez and Florencio Sanabria at Ruraq Maki - Hecho a Mano recently with their beautiful gourds. Don Florencio teaches gourd carving during our tours and Sra Elena not only carves beautiful gourds but she teaches hand embroidery. Note the gorgeous embroidery on Don Florencio's vest and by scrolling down. They are from the Department of Junin.

Hullo friends of PUCHKA!!!, What would you think about a tour down the Amazon River that would include embroidery and knitting workshops? There are some lovely small ships that would be perfect venues for this and we are considering it depending on interest,. We're also thinking about a second one on Lake Titicaca. We'd love to know your opinions. Thank you!
