About us

Our name is KAN(geki). In Japanese, 'geki' means 'theatre.' KAN can be read as '観' (kan-to see) or '感' (kan-to feel). The Chinese character '感 ' means emotion and feelings-the foundation of art and creation. The character '観' encompasses the meaning not only 'to see,' but also the action of observin

g deeply-when the viewer is touched by objects and experiences around them. With our name and our art, we hope to unite our passions and deep observations to imagine and create. KAN(geki) Theatre Company's purpose is to enrich the theatre scene in Japan by innovating and expanding on contemporary theatre practices. Following both the Japanese and Western traditions, we will approach our work with sincerity and purpose, treating each element as an artistic process. With our multicultural team, we aim to learn from each other in order to transcend borders-creating a fresh approach to expression that we hope will both excite and inspire our audiences.
