Travel with Ann Experiential Travel Advisor + Strategic Connector. Building bridges through Human Encounters. On a quest to trans

I am an experiential travel advisor, forging connections and building bridges across cultural and geographical boundaries. I have devoted much of the past 15 years to creating travel experiences anchored by meaningful human encounters that positively impact local hosts and communities, visitors and the environment. In the months and years following the COVID-19 pandemic, human encounters-centered

travel is one key to fortifying tourism-influenced economies worldwide. In 2020, I collaborated closely with my colleague and Latin American sustainable tourism leader, Jorge Moller Rivas, to reflect on our common experiences and the on-going impacts of the pandemic, leading us to develop the Human Encounters travel framework. Tourism centered first on human connections creates lasting and impactful experiences for host communities and travelers. This evolving framework helps travel leaders design deep and meaningful engagements connecting visitors with local people to listen and learn, share stories and support their work to build more sustainable communities that benefit all. In 2021, as tourism begins its slow re-emergence, I continue to develop new avenues to connect, listen and share my expertise and insights with others interested in creating authentic, deep travel experiences. If you are a travel leader--someone who plans or shapes travel experiences for others, whether as a tourism professional, community or nonprofit leader, or teacher-- I'd love to learn more about your perspectives and hopes for the future of experiential travel.

Our Story

As a life long experiential traveler, I returned from my first trip to Costa Rica in 2005 and all I could think about was “How do I get back to that wonderful country and those wonderful people?” So I did extensive research, planned and connected with local business owners and fellow adventurers. I proudly led my first “Wonderful Women” trip to Costa Rica in February 2006.

In my professional life, I worked in strategic consultancy, organizational and program development, and comprehensive meeting design and consultation, and I added an experiential travel component to my business, Ann Becker and Associates. These three elements are at the heart of why bringing people to experience authentic Costa Rica is so important to me: The People, the human element: On our tours, you connect and develop meaningful lasting relationships and friendships with Costa Ricans and fellow travelers and make connections that just aren't possibly in your day-to-day life. The Land, the Costa Rica element: You'll experience the amazing beauty and extraordinary and powerful biological complexity that is Costa Rica and its neighboring Central American countries of Nicaragua and Panama. The Moment, the Pura Vida element: In Spanish, Pura Vida translates roughly into “Pure Life”, but in Costa Rica it means something more: full of life, this is living, excellent. I plan these trips so that you focus entirely on the here and now. You'll feel a bit more adventurous, a little less self-conscious and feel transported into the Pura Vida lifestyle.

Fast forward to spring 2018. I’ve been to Costa Rica more than 40 times and have led more than 30 small group trips- my signature annual women’s adventure trips (#14 is scheduled from February 6-16, 2019!); co-ed Spanish/Cultural Immersion trips; and custom couples’ and family trips. I am just as enamored of Costa Rica as I was on that first trip in 2005.
