It is with great sadness that the British Asparagus Festival sends its deepest condolences to the family of our dearest friend, Henry Sandon MBE who passed away on Christmas Day 💔
Henry was a true ambassador for our Festival over many years. His and Barbara’s support and friendship will always be remembered with much joy and gratitude . His infectious , and sometimes “naughty” sense of humour , his passion for his antiques and especially his love of all things Worcestershire (especially porcelain) will be remembered so fondly for many years to come
He was a precious friend to us all
Rest in peace dearest Henry 🙏

This was part of the Blossom Trail 40th Anniversary press trip which took place a few weeks ago. Everybody on the trip had so much fun and we were able to visit so many different places, giving the journalists and bloggers a view into the many activities and events in Worcestershire's Vale & Spa 💚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

When is asparagus in season? The season runs in the Vale of Evesham from St George’s day on the 23rd April to the 21st June.

How do you eat your asparagus? I like mine roasted with a bit of salt and pepper 😋

Who is excited for the start of the English Aspragus Season on 23rd April at The Fleece Inn, Bretforton? I know we are! See you there 💚

🥬 We're entering into Vale of Evesham Asparagus season - but how do you eat yours? I love mine dipped into a soft-boiled egg, or on some hot buttered toast with a poached egg and some salt and cracked black pepper.

🔪Preparing asparagus to cook might seem daunting at first, but all you need to do is hold an asparagus stalk with one hand gripping the woody end, and one hand gripping between the middle and the other end and gently bend the asparagus until it snaps.

🍲But don't just bin those woody ends. You can freeze them until you have enough to make a flavourful asparagus soup. Not into soups? Just add it to a bag of vege peels in your freezer to make stock for great casseroles and stews.

Then, it's so versatile - you can boil, steam, grill, griddle, roast, air-fry the tender stem asparagus or add to things like risotto, stews, casseroles etc.

I was pleased to be at Evesham train station on Sunday morning to join and then wave off a local delegation (including !) who were heading to London to promote tourism to our area - and also help support the Dogs on the streets charity who do great work supporting rough sleepers in London with pets on the street.

Many thanks to all involved, and to Great Western Railway for helping facilitate this event.
