I came home on 01/31/2024. It is my 3rd hospital stay since the original surgery at Thanksgiving. I am back on steroids and more, yet my pericarditis is persistent. I am doing a bit more each day, especially since we added a new family member.
The big news is Fred picked up our Siberian Forest Cat from Kryptosiberians in Bend on 02/03-2024. Gorm is his name, which means 'Honour' and 'Respect'. And his name originates from Old Gorm the Viking Denmark King who was loved and revered.
He is 12 weeks old, cuddly, active, curious, and a fluff ball. He coincidentally has a heart issue that the vet hopes will resolve in 6 months and not be a problem. We will accept any positive thoughts, prayers, good juju, or Reiki for his health as well.
Fred is in love and smitten with Gorm, his first cat. And he is my first young kitten.
Blessings to you all.
Health is really the first wealth that informs how we live our lives.
*If you only ever say one prayer in a day, make it THANK YOU.

We are getting a Siberian Forest Kitten in a few weeks.
We are researching and trying to decide about Pet Insurance.
Please my Dog, Cat, and other animal guardians.
Do you or don't you have Pet Insurance?
Why do you do or don't?
What company do you use, like, and trust?
I value your experience and opinions.
Thank You.

The cover photo is from 2007 at Christmas. So much has changed, but the love is still there among all the events that have passed.
Sending love and light to those who are alone, afraid, or sad at this time of year. I know I grieve for my mom who passed in 2015 and her two sisters, Candi and Kenni who died recently. Yet, I also am grateful for the care I was given at OHSU by the entire staff as I had open heart surgery and two subsequent hospital stays in December. It may be difficult to find the good, but I know my heart heals when I can both acknowledge my grief/sadness and then remember the good that is present. I send the patience to cultivate the good. My apologies if this is preachy, but there you have it. My authentic voice as a Reiki practiioner, teacher, helper, and empathic guide. Merry Christmas. Happy Hannukah. Boxing Day. Be soulful. Be kind. Be in love. ~ Rumi

Under the Cedars begins our 8th year of hosting in the Southeast Woodstock/Sellwood area of Portland, Oregon.
Under The Cedars Guesthouse is called that because there are Cedar trees to the right of the building. The previous owners had converted the garage into an grandparents guest house when grandbabies arrived. Then the grandparents moved to Portland and the owners rented the space on Airbnb to friends and neighbors and their families.
As much as we loved sharing The Slater House PDX with our guests and sleeping next door to them, the 4 floors were taking a toll on our joints, and Fred and I were really ready for a change and a less urban and busy neighborhood. We were lucky enough to find this treasure of a home when we were not expecting it, but it was just what we were looking for. The ADU is a 1 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and bath (soon laundry) that has its own little front yard and porch, with a parking space and private entrance. It is a quiet street with the occasional neighbor boy playing basketball, people with dogs, bikes whizzing by, and a horticultural business across the street. It is a unique and special place. Our 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is 30 feet from the ADU so we are close by if there is a question, concern, or desire for conversation or recommendation.
Fred and I are Super Hosts and have been hosting for seven years with Airbnb and love sharing our home with travelers from around the world and from our backyard: literally we have served almost every neighbor on our block with friends and families staying for graduation, weddings, new baby, job interview, or grand-kids. Hosting is more than an income, it brings us into contact with guests who come from many different cultures, religions, countries with customs we have learned from and about. Hosting keeps us in contact with lots of people who are doing great things for the world, environment, and other people.
Fred and I are proud to host for Airbnb. And we are proud that we are some of the first legally permitted hosts and homes by the City of Portland. We are proud of the statistics that we received from Airbnb: we have hosted over 2012 guests and we have over 600 5-star reviews and have hosted guests from 20 different countries. Because we treat our guests the way we like to be treated, but that we treat others, with respect, consideration, professionalism, clear communication, and kindness we attract the type of guests who appreciate this as well.

We are permitted by the City of Portland, pay Lodging Taxes like motels/hotels do, and Airbnb gives a portion of our earnings to help build housing for the homeless.
