Happy Earth Day!
Today I’d like to share 5 of my top tips for living more sustainably. Plus a little peek into life at my newly created urban homestead!
1. Grow some of your own food! Growing our own food is a revolutionary act in today’s society. Food can be growing freely and abundantly all around us. Start small. This pumpkin grew out of my compost. I didn’t even plant it!
2. Ride a bicycle, walk and use public transport! This is my new bicycle, built out of almost all second hand materials. Life is good on a bike!
3. Compost! By composting we can turn food scraps, leaves, paper and other items into nutritious soil, rather than trash. The problem is the solution! Here at my homestead I compost for 15+ people in my neighborhood too.
4. Buy unpackaged and whole foods! Find a store near you where you can purchase unpackaged foods. Strive to ditch the processed foods and eat healthy, whole foods. This is the dry goods shelf in my kitchen. Almost everything here came without a packaging and created no trash.
5. Strive to be Low Waste! It’s unlikely any of us will achieve Zero Waste, but we can all do more. One simple way is to ditch the disposable paper towels and napkins and use reusable towels instead. Check what is in your garbage can and find reusable alternatives!
See the comments where I've posted photos for tips 2-5!
Start with one change at a time until you become the change you wish to see in the world!
Love,
Rob
