It is with great sadness we advise of the death last week in Dunedin of a great colleague and friend in Darrel Robinson. Darrel was highly respected in the Headfirst Travel team as legend driver-guide and within the Dunedin Tourism Industry especially for the work he did on Cruise ship days.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and Andrew especially.

Darrel's life will be celebrated at Hope & Sons this Wednesday 12 May from 2pm.

Headfirst Travel is happy to announce the commencement of a Oamaru to Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo daily bus service utilising their Double Decker fleet. The service will take five hours each way with unprecented views and on board refreshments supplied by auxiliary crew.

Owner Ralph Davies says his research in the domestic market has shown a demand for new travel styles and this slow but steady, value-added service should have good traction.

In addition to the $99 upstairs fares, there will be student discounts for traveling on the lower level and one free seat is offered each trip for those that wish to assist with running up meals to the upper level.

The Government has released a series of incentives yesterday for various tourisn hit regions including the Mackenzie Country which includes Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo. "We are hopeful the service will be underwritten by this support and the new paint job, featuring a photo of the Prime Minister super-imposed climbing Mt Cook will be really eye-catching." says Mr Davies.

Headfirst Travel will be applying for $1.5 million through the funding and hopes to hear by noon today of the support. It is hoped the service will soon expand to two departures per day.
