A Brief History of the Holy Land sites:

#5 The Akko Fortress: It’s an archeological treasure in beautiful Acre, this crusader fortress was built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century. If you follow the ancient city’s walls, the crusader fortress was built directly in the center to ensure the vital supplies coming to and from Europe. Within the fortress there are rooms for all different uses, from hospitals, to dining rooms, public bathrooms, and most impressively, huge halls used for varying purposes. The crypt that lies underground contains crusader tombstones and the tunnel which leads there is as small. Akko is one of the most prolific cities of the Ancient World. Akko is an essential part of any visit.

A Brief History of the Holy Land sites:

#4 Jerusalem, Mount of Olives (Part 1):
Mount of Olives so named for the olive groves that once dotted its slopes, is East Jerusalem's most prominent point, towering over 800 meters above sea level. This holy site is associated with Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.

Garden of Gethsemane: Early Christian pilgrims located the Garden of Gethsemane at the bottom of the slope of the Mount of Olives opposite the Temple Mount. Three churches - Byzantine, Crusader and a modern church were built successively on the site where it is believed that Jesus prayed to the Father hours before his crucifixion, was betrayed by Judas with a kiss, and was strengthened by angels before He was arrested.

Church of All Nations: The Basilica of Agony or the Church of All Nations at the Mount of Olives is a Roman Catholic church, believed to enshrine a section of bedrock where Jesus is said to have prayed before his arrest. It was built in May 1924 on the foundations of two earlier churches, one 12th-century Crusader chapel, and a fourth-century Byzantine basilica.

A Brief History of the Holy Land Sites:

#3 Caesarea: is originally an ancient Herodian port city located on Mediterranean Coast halfway between Tel Aviv and Haifa. The site has recently been restored to create one of the most attractive archaeological sites. The beautifully restored harbor here was built by King Herod and is a work of engineering marvel. Archeological excavations during the 1950s and 1960s uncovered remains from many periods, in particular, a complex of fortifications of the Crusader city and the Roman theater.

A Brief History of the Holy Land Sites:

#2 The Church of Nativity and The Shepherds Field:

Church of the Nativity: Birthplace of Jesus, and the Pilgrimage Route, Bethlehem. The grotto it contains holds a prominent religious significance to Christians of various denominations as the birthplace of Jesus. The grotto is the oldest site, and the basilica is the oldest major church in the Holy Land.

The Shepherds Field: This is the spot where the "Shepherds kept watch" (Luke 2: 8 ) On the night that Christ was born, Archangel Gabriel spoke to them and they heard the angelic proclamation "Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth and good will toward men" (Luke 2: 14). The Roman Catholic Sanctuary designed by Italian, Antonio Barluzzi, celebrates the birth of Christ being revealed to the lowly shepherds. Look above the entry to see the impressive angel, heralding the birth of our Lord. Behind this Sanctuary is a cave (or grotto).

A trip with the Orthodox Scout - Lod.
to Capernaum, and the Jordan River:

Capernaum: Archaeological discovered excavations of a fifth century Byzantine octagonal church which in turn encompasses a first and second century CE Christian house church which many scholars believe is the house of Peter and it's also called the Pilgrimage Church of St. Peter in Capernaum.

The Jordan River plays an important role in the New Testament, John's baptism of Jesus forms a seminal moment in the life of Christ and marks a defining event in the Christian Church.

Trip with the Orthodox community in Lod
to Beit Shean and Banias.

Brief excerpts of the two locations:

Beit Shean: is located in the Galilee region in the northern where the Harod Valley and Jordan Valley meet, just 27km south of the Sea of Galilee and 5km east of the Jordan River and is one of the country’s largest archaeological sites. In Roman times, Beit She'an was the leading city of the Decapolis. It was the capital, and it was called Scythopolis, and it was also the capital of Palaestina Secunda in the Byzantine period.

Banias Nature Reserve: is a site in the Golan Heights near a natural spring, once associated with the Greek god Pan. It consists of two areas – the springs and the archaeological site, where is the palace of Agrippas II, grandson of Herod the Great. It’s remains of a Roman/Crusader town.

Thank you all for participating, we had a great time together ♥️

A Brief History of the Holy Land Sites:

#1 The Old City of Jerusalem is undoubtedly one of the most amazing places in the world. At the heart of the Jewish, Islamic, and Christian religions. The walled city was established by the Romans as ‘Aelia Capitolina’ in the second century CE, after they had destroyed the great capital city of Judea. Since its foundation, this city was destroyed and reconstructed several times, but maintained its external outline. The visible city, then, is comprised mainly of buildings constructed in the period of Ottoman (16th-20th centuries) and Mamluk (13th to 16th centuries) rule, but it incorporates buildings of the Crusader, Early Islamic and, in its foundations, of the Byzantine and even Roman periods. It is a walled city crammed full of history and religion. The Old City also has a number of museums and archaeological places:
