Terrible and sad news at another UP Waterfall.
Careful around UP Waterfalls folks, getting to close could lead to death from a simple slip or tripping on a rock or root sticking up it's not worth any pictures or videos

The individual, identified as Steven Poppema of Holland, Michigan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cedar Creek Falls, Marquette County. Located deep in the Huron Mountains and bordering the Huron Mountain Club property is a small set of slide/cascade waterfalls. It is recommended that you use a high clearance vehicle to access these falls off of Northwestern Rd. and you should have your bearings before you enter the forest to find these. Getting lost could cause you to wander onto the HMC property with guards detaining you for questioning and trespassing you.

Teacup falls, deep in the Huron mountains.
This little waterfall can be seen on your way to Mount Arvon, it isn't the biggest or most beautiful but it is easy to get to, lots of mosquitos waiting to feed on your blood. You'll want to visit after a moderate to heavy rain in the summer or fall as it dries up pretty good during the warmer months.

Powerhouse falls L’Anse, MI
This little gem could be considered the little brother of Canyon falls further south in Baraga county. This waterfall is so easy to see, just drive there and pull up along side it to view.

Little Union River Gorge falls is one of tallest waterfalls in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park - the Porkies.
This waterfall (GPS marker at bottom) is located 1.5miles south of the turn to the Porkies Headquarters on the left side of the road. Park at the Union Mine trail parking lot and walk south on the road about 100 feet on the left side of the road you will see a trail into the woods and this waterfall is right there. Continue down the wall traveled trail through the large hemlock forest to see an old mine shaft and 3 more waterfalls.
This trail heads over to the Union River which has another 11 waterfall drops as you head upstream from the bridge where the Union River outpost campground is. Following this trail upstream will lead you back to the parking lot where your vehicle is.
With close to, if not more than 100 waterfall drops in the Porkies, there are more than enough waterfalls to enjoy.

Waterfall adventure that you must see. O kun-de-kun Falls and Konteka falls both located in Ontonagon county of Michigan's Upper Peninsula close by each other. These waterfalls are very scenic in Ontonagon county and this hike has quickly become a favorite for both tourists and locals to visit all four-seasons of the year.
NOTE: The waterfall you first come to which is just upstream from O Kun de Kun is called Konteka falls, wasn't ever called Peanut butter, not sure exactly where that name came from but people didn't do their research. The name comes from Chief Konteka (aka O kun de Kun). This is just another name for the Chief, Konteka falls has also been referred to as upper O Kun de Kun.

Ojibway falls, Keweenaw county.
There's another name for this falls but I can't remember, I almost forgot about this from many years ago visiting it.
Michigan's Keweenaw has about 45 waterfalls documented with more on the way. Did you know there were so many in Keweenaw county?

Lyytila falls. Beautiful little 25ft waterfall along the Keweenaw volcanic fault line in Houghton county.
The following old photos may be the oldest photos ever seen from Lyytila falls, written Lyottila falls by family members who didn't know how to spell Lyytila so Lyottila is the American version of Lyytila. Don Kilpela says, "These pictures were taken by my father Tauno Kilpela in the spring of 1946. The man in the photos is a friend of his, one of the Kinnunen brothers. Not sure which one".
My mother, whose maiden name was Toini Wiitala, grew up on a nearby farm and was familiar with these falls.
I first visited these falls as a young teenager in the 1960's".
Unfortunately Tauno Kilpela, 96, passed away 2017.
Tauno was born in South Range on September 23, 1920 at home to Finnish immigrants Henry and Margaret Kilpela. The youngest of seven siblings, Tauno led a Tom Sawyer-like boyhood roaming in the woods, hunting with his slingshot and devising various pranks and mischief with his friends.

I love hearing about the history of the waterfalls that go back decades and decades. UP Falls will always call waterfalls by their historic names or what the locals have called it as far back as we can find. Many times people have no provenance to go with the name they say. Just because you see a name on google, on a blog, or in a waterfall book doesn't mean that waterfall is the actual historical name or local name for that waterfall.

Jacobs falls. This waterfall is located in Keweenaw county, one of the more popular waterfalls in the county. Upstream there are a few more waterfall drops that are for the more adventurous to view.
These falls are located off M26 next to the Jam Pot bakery.

Hungarian falls spring melt is on the way. Another 2-3weeks for the falls to open up and flow to really be spectacular. Should be really nice flow into middle of May this year especially with any rains we get. Careful as your exploring you’ll post hole with wet snow and could twist an ankle.
