Some sad and deeply frustrating news for ocean lovers this week after these injuries were sighted on one of our incredible whale sharks in the Maldives. The amazing team at Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme encoutered WS198 'Naococco' with these severe injuries, consistent with a twin outboard speedboat. For Naococco, this is the third major boat strike injury he has sustained in 3 years!! They do not deserve this. For those of you based in the Maldives, please spread awareness to guests and staff about boat etiquette and protocol in the water. This is avoidable. We simply need to all slow down. We are thankful that whale sharks prove time and time again to be resilient to such devastating injuries and we hope, in time, these scars will start to heal. 💔💙
