Thank you for your concern about Haiti. I've received texts and calls and am learning more about the developing issues hindering Haitit’s development. I urge US citizens (friends of Haiti) and green card holders to contact their representatives and respectfully ask them to prioritize Haiti's democratic governance and economic development. Your tax dollars fund an unelected Prime Minister who lacks popular support. Hold reps accountable for past interventions that contributed to Haiti’s instability. Support Haitian-led initiatives for economic development and democratic governance, rather than imposing US agendas. Hold Haitian leaders accountable for aid funds. Please call your reps and ask them to take action towards a more constructive approach in Haiti.

It’s FriYay!!!

By the way…

The Biden and Trudeau administrations, representing their respective taxpaying citizenry, continue to assume an overseer role or treat Haiti as a protectorate, despite Haiti's sovereign status. Haiti's ability to exercise its sovereignty is constrained due to historical US intervention and control. International aid is pervasive in Haiti, but this has not led to meaningful progress. It is important to recognize that the US government, along with its international allies, has a history of destabilizing governments and profiteering from false promises. This pattern must end. Haitians living abroad must realize that the US government and its allies are not genuinely committed to supporting Haiti's development and have refused to sponsor comprehensive campaigns that would strengthen Haiti's systems and lead to the decentralization of its resources. As a result, Haitians are now faced with the difficult decision of supporting criminal gangs that have held them hostage and joining forces with them to resist the invasion of Haiti by international police forces led by Kenyan troops. The current de-facto prime minister of Haiti, supported by the US and Canada, remains widely unpopular in Haiti. The Kenyan troops will likely face violent resistance, similar to the French forces during Haiti's historic revolution. Unfortunately, the Canadian and US governments seem to condone this level of black-on-black violence, as it is a phenomenon they perpetuate in their own countries through short-sighted initiatives.

The US government can essentially do as it pleases in Haiti... AND IT DOES without any consequences. Many of us who are informed choose not to speak out, thereby neglecting to raise awareness and inform friends of Haiti on how to help. Haiti doesn't always require financial donations. Instead, it ALWAYS needs you to regularly reach out to your congressional representatives to investigate the US role in Haiti and demand answers as to WHY.

U.S. rice exports to Haiti, which account for the bulk of supplies of the country's key food staple, contain unhealthy levels of arsenic and cadmium, heavy metals that can increase risks of cancer and heart disease, according to a recent study by the University of Michigan.

The historical evidence supports the claim that the United States has done more harm than good in Haiti. Throughout history, when the United States has occupied or provided aid to Haiti, the outcomes have been detrimental. This pattern is well-documented.

The current proposal to use US and Canadian taxpayer dollars to fund an occupation of Haiti under the guise of "keeping the peace" is concerning. Previous occupations have not resulted in positive outcomes, and there is a risk that a similar intervention could worsen existing issues in Haiti.

The mention of using Kenyan police officers and other black nations to occupy Haiti raises important questions about racial dynamics. It is concerning that the potential harm caused by using Kenyans to enforce control in Haiti may be overlooked or desensitized by the United States and its citizens. This could perpetuate a narrative of black-on-black crime and further marginalize Haitians, which remains largely ignored by mainstream news.

A different approach is needed. It is important to let Haitians lead the campaign to fix Haiti. This is not an argument against international aid, but rather a call for a more empowering and collaborative approach. International assistance should be provided in a way that respects the agency and expertise of the Haitian people.
