During last week's GMID 2019 event in Philadelphia, Human Trafficking was one of the panel discussions and was very well presented. There is a lot to learn about this sad fact that happens everyday around the globe. Human Trafficking in the Hospitality Industry affects countless children as victims of trafficking at hotels or on airlines across the globe. Find out what to look for and what to do if you suspect trafficking.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR
Minimal luggage/clothing
Lack of access to travel documents and money
Victim seems disoriented and lost
Victim lacks physical and verbal autonomy
Lack of adequate language skills for foreign victims
Trafficker is seen with many young children
Trafficker insists on paying solely in cash
Victim and trafficker have minimal interaction and eye contact with others, especially with staff
No evidence of return ticket; may have tickets to multiple destinations
Victim has indications of physical and emotional abuse
Trafficker/victim seem anxious to arrive at destination

WHAT TO DO
BE ALERT during large gatherings such as conventions or sporting games
DO NOT confront the child or adult
ALERT management, flight attendant, or airport security
NOTE the room/seat number, names, and description of individuals

For those who don't know, our dear friend Gary Musich (formerly with the Atlantic City CVB) is battling cancer and is undergoing aggressive treatment. A fundraiser is scheduled for May 11th and a GoFundMe page has been created. Details are below. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary and his family.

FISHING FOR A CURE
A Fundraiser to Benefit Gary Musich
Atlantic City, NJ. March 22, 2019 – Today in Atlantic City, NJ, an announcement was made through a group of family, friends and associates of Gary Musich that they will produce several fundraising activities on Gary’s behalf. Musich is a long-time member of the MeetAC team with deep roots in the convention and meeting industries. He was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing aggressive treatment.

As part of the ongoing effort to solicit donations to help the Musich family with their high medical expenses, the group announced Fishing for a Cure, which is a concert being held at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on May 11, 2019. Tickets will be $50 with all profits going directly to Gary. Headlining the event are The Legacy Band
(http://legacyband.net/) and DJ Aiden Scott, some of Philadelphia’s hottest talents.
