Reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s statement regarding eradicating poverty in the country in a single blow, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath said that Congress raised the slogan 'Garibi Hatao' in 1970, yet it could not be removed even though the Congress party ruled the country for six decades and accused it of misleading the people of the country. Speaking further, he said that even after 70 years of independence, Congress and its allies ruled, yet 50 crore people did not have a bank account, cooking gas, or accommodation and said that it kept the people deprived of these basic needs. “Congress gave the slogan 'Garibi Hatao' in 1970, yet it could not be removed. Congress ruled for six decades and they have been misleading the people by raising the same slogan...Even after 70 years of independence, Congress and its allies ruled, yet 50 crore people did not have a bank account...If so many people were deprived of these basic needs then Congress and its partners are responsible for it”, said Yogi Adityanath.

Merely claiming to “fact-check” does not make an article fact-check, as The Hindu would have us believe. Nowadays, the left-leaning media houses and journalists, spurred by the shady ‘fact-checks’ carried out by the likes of Pratik Sinha and Mohammed Zubair of Alt News, have begun peddling propaganda dressed as ‘fact-check’, hoping it would help them hoodwink their readers into believing their assumptions and prejudice.

A similar attempt to mislead readers was made by The Hindu with its recently published piece titled—’A fact-check on Modi’s speech in Rajasthan about Muslims and Manmohan Singh’—authored by Vignesh Radhakrishnan and Rebecca Rose Verghese, which presented strawman arguments, presumably with the hopes of discrediting PM Modi’s pithy statements referring to the fertility rates among Muslims.

Scientists long thought only insects and birds served as pollinators, but research has revealed that some reptiles and mammals are more than up to the task. Now, scientists must consider whether amphibians are also capable of getting the job done.

In March 2022, Gurjar discovered a crimson-throated Sarus crane that lay in a field shivering and bleeding from a broken leg. He brought it home and using traditional medicine, nursed it back to health in six weeks before setting it free.

Gurjar thought that the bird would fly away as soon as it recovered. The wild bird, however, had no intention of leaving its new human friend.

When asked about their reaction to all that had transpired since The Elephant Whisperers thrust them and the elephant camp into the limelight, Bomman had a very humble response. He said, "My dad used to go to the forest for the elephants and I tagged along with him and when I grew up I eventually felt way more connected with these elephants and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with them. Previously, the camps used to be inside forests, now camps are in towns. Its easier. Elephants are my life."

Post the historic Oscar win, Republic TV got an exclusive chance to interview 'Elephant Whisperer' Bomman.

Today, the days-long pilgrimages on foot are just a memory for Sathyamurthy. Things have changed in the forest, too. The nine-hectare sacred grove—about the size of nine soccer fields—has a barbed wire fence around it, a tarmac road allowing people to drive to the temple’s doorstep, and a public toilet. But parts of the grove have survived these transformations and preserve a rare ecosystem on the rapidly urbanizing coast.

Botanists and community stewards from Auroville, Tamil Nadu, are using scattered patches of native forest as a blueprint to revive the tropical dry evergreen forest ecosystems of coastal India.

Growing to the size of a cat, it's the world's largest living frog.

"When I found this species was unique - the biggest one in the world - I said this is something that we cannot easily find elsewhere and I was proud of it," he says.

"People in the area say they are blessed to have something like that; they attach to it a cultural value."

One man's bid to learn the secrets of the endangered frog that grows to the size of a domestic cat.

"I was once chatting with an environmental historian who made a comment that stuck with me: Humans are of the species Homo tinkerus.
Torie Bosch’s story “Bigfeet,” styled as a magazine feature for the fictional, New Yorker-esque publication Matter of Fact, presents a dramatic example of humans tinkering in ecosystems, and the potential strange and unforeseen environmental (as well as legal and social) fallout. Dr. Shelley, the anonymous scientist at the heart of the story, describes how Bigfeet—genetically engineered approximations of the legendary cryptid—were created and then dropped into forests throughout North America, with little thought about what might happen to them or to other species they’d cohabitate with."

A conservation researcher responds to Torie Bosch’s “Bigfeet.”

In the villages of Dadara, Pacharia and Singimari (all in Kamrup district), greater adjutants’ nests have increased from 28 in 2010 to more than 250 according to Barman’s last count, making the area the world’s largest breeding colony. “We now have more than 1,000 hargila birds in Assam,” says Barman, referring to recent but unpublished data collected by her team.

Greater adjutants, reviled as bad omens, were endangered until Indian conservationist Purnima Devi Barman transformed attitudes to the bird – and gave thousands of women a new identity

"These Pangolins go by the cutest of names - 'walking pinecones', 'artichokes with tails' and 'modern-day dinosaurs'!

Well, I had known about this elusive pre-hostoric looking nocturnal creature. I had seen many cartoons and illustrations showing how they roll up into a ball for self defense. Every Pangolin news article highlights how this animal is the most poached and trafficked animal! I had read that their long sticky tongue has perfectly evolved to feed on ants and termites.

But putting in the time to learn a little more about this animal before creating this artwork, has moved this scaly mammal to a special favourite of mine! It now makes me all the more sad to read how these animals continue to be mercilessly hunted. Shocks me to read about the many kgs of pangolin scales that continue to be confiscated from poachers. Despite being nocturnal, secretive and hard to spot, they are still captured and used for some traditional Chinese medicine that is not even scientifically proven to work!

With a primary diet of ants, these Pangolins are aptly called 'Anteaters'. Without these creatures bulldozing into soil and voraciously consuming ants every night, can you imagine keeping a check on the ever growing 20 quadrillion population of ants on our planet!

A healthy population of Pangolins helps sustain a healthy ecological balance." - Sangeetha Kadur

It isn’t just their compelling stories, but also the spectacularity of their nature photography that is getting global audiences to sit up and take notice. All That Breathes’s team—Ben Bernhard, Riju Das and Saumyananda Sahi—follows Sen’s instinct for lyrical storytelling and patiently unearths the hidden habitats of wild animals that must adapt to an unfamiliar urban landscape. The Elephant Whisperers, shot by Gonsalves along with Krish Makhija, Anand Bansal and Karan Thapliyal, is suffused with long, lingering shots of the natural beauty of the Nilgiris—the lushness of these verdant hills, forests, valleys, streams, a reminder of what can be lost.

Both ‘All That Breathes’ and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ focus on wildlife conservation; the only films in their respective Oscars award categories to do so
