UPDATE: the new policy is that only unvaccinated guests will need to wear masks, but leaving this up since children under 5 aren’t currently vaccinated. It is also required by everyone to wear masks on all Disney provided transportation. 🙂
While masks are not required outdoors at Disney World, you do have to wear them indoors if you are 2 and up and unvaccinated. Which can be anxiety inducing for parents of young children new to wearing masks.
No one wants to go all the way to Disney World and not be able to ride certain rides because their child won’t wear their mask. Here’s a list of a few ways to get your toddler ready to wear a mask.
1. Wear yours and make a ritual of where it goes every day
2. Introduce a fun mask with a positive tone that they’re part of the mask crew now!
3. Identify a place next to your mask where your toddler can hang theirs too.
4. Have practice mask wearing time at the store or just in the house.
5. Make it fun- even if you hate wearing yours, if you want to be able to go to Disney during mask wearing times, pretend like it’s great infront of your toddler, they will be more likely to love it and willing to wear it on your vacation.
6. Let them pick out their masks, giving them ownership of it.
7. If you’re at the parks and they have a mask refusal moment…just try and select an outdoor activity or ride to avoid making the mask an unpleasant experience to give some distance between the frustration and the mask. And then try again a little later.
