Check out the track closures for planning your trip

If you are taking a trip into our state forests, the first step occurs long before you hit the road – planning!
Road and forest closures are in place across Gippsland, as crews work to ensure public safety, our number one priority.
In the Macalister district, we want to remind visitors that the following road closures are in place and are inaccessible:

⚠️ Freestone Creek Rd - Closed at Winkie Creek Crossing - No through access between Briagolong - Stockdale Road and Bairnsdale - Dargo Road on Freestone Creek Road.
⚠️ Roberts Rd - Closed between Three Bridges Road and Insolvent Track (Entire Track)
⚠️Marathon Road Closed - North of Blanket Wood Track - No through access to Horse Yard Flat or Pinnacles Lookout

It’s no surprise that camp spots are full, but here’s a few locations noted by DELWP in their latest post.

Holiday makers are being urged to make alternative plans in case their favourite campsite is already full.
Campsites like Woods Point in East Gippsland are already at capacity, with cars parked along the access road.
Many other camping grounds are also full, including Coopers Creek and Bruntons Bridge in West Gippsland.
People looking for a place to camp should have a backup plan ready if their preferred spot is unavailable.
If you do find a site, only camp in designated areas and make sure access roads are kept clear for emergency vehicles.

Lake Cobbler..
Great spot to visit. And yes could possibly get here with an AWD.

Find your way to Cheshunt, grab food from the general store there, its yummy.
If you like trucks, then have a look at the table in the cafe next door, its built on a truck lift.

Head up Rose river road and turn right onto Upper Rose river road. That turns into Lake Cobbler road.
When near the top look out for the water fall to the right. But you can stop and look on the way home, just make sure your handbrake in on and working.
Then turn right and right again into Lake Cobbler.
The big puddle you can drive through carefully or walk it.
Enjoy the views the lake and life.
There is plenty of walks to do up to Mt Cobbler and to the top of the water falls.

When back at Cheshunt you can also go up to Lake William Hovel and Paradise falls. And there is heaps of wineries.

There are several tracks closed, like my driveway, its closed.
Make sure you check the Parks vic website, link in the comments.
Last week I had 5 tracks closed that I would have liked to have explored.

Easiest route into Wonnangatta is this one, West Buffalo track. But Zeka isnt to bad either.

Stay safe. Also make sure you enter the bush with full tanks of fuel, you never know when you have to do big diversions to drive around a fallen tree or closed track..

Well this is disappointing for those wishing to explore HST

Fred Frys Hut.
Named after Fred Hut, from the research I did by watching Russel Coight.. hahaha

Frys hut, I first visited it in 1983, yes I am old.
ATM its 4wd access only or you can walk in. Make sure you do the walk between Frys Flat and Sheepyard flat.
Both have huge camp grounds..
From here you can drive down to Mitchels flat, 4wd only and can get hard if wet, but easy medium to the slate mine. Up there is some awesome views, worth doing..

Special Note, I have memories of seeing Boris Johnson leaning out the window of Frys Hut.

One of my favourite tracks in the Vic High Country is the Humfrey river track.
It is NOT an easy track. You will need a well setup lifted 4wd (with bigger tyres) and good experience to complete it successfully.
And/Or go with a highly supportive group.

Its a great loop to do while staying down at Wonnangatta, takes about 3 hours, you will go through lots of rivers crossings, go up and down some steep climbs, a few mud bogs and drive though a very scenic area.

And some knarley climbs out of the river.
