Time for another year of good-natured research competition at FG 2025!

After the success of the past few years, a new edition of the competition track will be held at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition. Conference organizers solicit competition proposals on any topic of interest to the FG community with an emphasis on emerging fields or new application domains related to FG. Interdisciplinary topics that will attract a significant cross-section of the community are highly encouraged.

Two Types of Competitions

> Standard data science competitions, where participants will compete to obtain the best score on a machine learning task of interest to the FG community based on a problem and data defined and released by the organizers of the competition.

> Live competitions, which will be held in a “science-fair” manner at FG 2025. Participants will present live demos at FG 2025 which apply methodology to an application domain defined by the organizers of the live competition.

There will be a competition track at FG 2025, co-located with the conference workshops, where competition results will be presented and discussed. Competition organizers will be asked to propose a tentative schedule for presentation of the competition and its results during an assigned time slot.

Standard data science and live competition proposals must both be submitted via CMT at: https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/FG2025

KEY DATES

Competition proposal submission deadline: October 16, 2024
Acceptance notification: November 4, 2024
Competition track: May 2025

Catch this IJCB 2024 highlight!

On September 17, Elham Tabassi, chief AI advisor at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), gave a keynote presentation at the 2024 International Joint Conference on Biometrics, titled, “The AI Risk Management Framework and Ongoing NIST Work on AI.”

Tabassi is the principal architect of NIST Fingerprint Image Quality, an international standard for measuring fingerprint image quality that has been deployed in many biometric applications worldwide and, more recently, was named by TIME magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential People in AI.”

In her talk, she addressed the NIST AI Innovation Lab’s efforts to cultivate trust in design, development, deployment, and use of AI systems, which, as are all aware, have the intrinsic risk of negatively impacting individuals, groups, organizations, communities, society, the environment, and the planet.

Thank you to Elham for this insightful presentation. The full recording and transcript are now available for all to view.
