Sri Lanka 🇱🇰, you have captured our hearts 💕! Once again, we were blown away by the landscapes and the delicious food, but our trip to Sri Lanka was truly made special by the people! Between welcoming us to their homes and families to sharing their New Year's traditions with us, we we overwhelmed by the hospitality and generosity of the Sri Lankans.
Having to leave this beautiful country was such sweet sorrow, but with so much more to see and do, a return journey is definitely on our bucket list. Stay tuned to DiscoFinchu for a video highlighting our trip coming your way soon!

Yet again we are reminded to always be on our toes when traveling. Between weather and New Years celebrations in Sri Lanka, we’ve had to alter our plans and cut out a leg of our journey north.
As disappointed as we are by this, the changes to our plans will not deter us! We’ve worked out a new plan - always in pencil of course, never pen - and have just as amazing things to do instead! Having our Tuk Tuk courtesy of also helps with that freedom 😉
Never let issues when traveling be a setback, only an opportunity to experience something entirely unexpected. Besides: this leaves more places for us to check out when we come back!

Today we spent our first day driving through Sri Lanka on our tuk tuk! What a great ride it was getting to see all the extra sights along the way we would have missed if we took a train. Including being able to stop over in Galle on our way to Mirissa to check out Galle Fort and the lighthouse - what an amazing view!
Can’t wait to see where else our tuk tuk will take us - thanks !

Even if you plan your trip down to the minute, you never know when something will go wrong or you have to adjust your plans - such is the life of a traveler. Having faith that there are good people in the world that are willing to lend a helping hand or point you in the right direction when you take a wrong turn is how we make it through these challenges on the road.
The other day while out exploring Ras al Khaimah, we had some car trouble (our key broke 😫), luckily, a local came to our rescue! Not only did he help us fix the key and get us on our way, but offered us traditional qahwah (coffee), dates, and cold water 😇.
The kindness and hospitality of strangers should not go unnoticed - stay tuned to the blog for an upcoming post where we talk about this some more!

Happy International Women’s Day! A time to look to the future and push for more progress in the fight for equality. Because it’s not just about our generation...but about our daughters and their daughters and the world we want them to grow up in.
A world where there’s no question of whether or not she gets paid the same as her male counterpart at work. Where she won’t question if the reason she didn’t get the promotion is because she’s a female. A world where she doesn’t have to be afraid walking alone, or traveling alone, or living alone. A world where being female, doesn’t mean you’re a second class citizen.

War is neither a game nor a dick measuring contest. No one is born hating another person because of the color of their skin, or their background, or their religion.
Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom. We will not build a peaceful world by following a negative path. It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it.
We were not put on this earth to compete. We were put here to create. As a human being, I will always speak for peace and no one can silence me in this.
Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. We can be that generation.

Oh yeah - we went to Panama 🇵🇦 on our last trip too! We didn’t have a lot of time, but Madi figured out a quick 2 hour walking tour of Casco Viejo for us to make sure we didn’t miss any of the sights we wanted to see - who needs a guided tour when there’s articles galore and Google Maps 🤓 (of course having a Madi helps too right 😉)?!
When we visited Iglesia Santo Domingo Omer couldn’t resist doing his favourite head stand under El Arco Chato (the flat arch). While most of the 17th century church and convent was decimated by fire during the 18th century, the flat arch at the entrance has remained standing for centuries after.
Random fact of the day: the arch was actually used as part of the reasoning for building the Panama Canal in Panama.

Yes! Amongst our favourite things about traveling (new sights, food, culture) is the people we meet on our journey! There’s always someone willing to share their table, a story, or their history - if only you’re open to it! And of course reciprocate in kind.
The world is full of good, beautiful souls - we have only to open our doors and welcome them in to find them. Once found they tend to stay in our lives and hearts forever ❤️.

The other day a friend told me about their partner’s preferred travel itinerary: an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. Every. Single. Trip. I was blown away - having been to an all-inclusive on one of my first trips, I realized very quickly (by day 3), that it wasn’t for me. I just couldn’t stay put for 7 days on the beach.
But, I suppose, just like everything else in life, the old adage applies: to each their own. Luckily for me, I found a partner that loves to travel the way I do - with a maximum of one day spent at the beach. 🏖

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which explains why pictures are play such an important part in our memories, especially of trips! That’s why we use 3 different cameras 📷 🎥(Sony A6000, GoPro Hero 5, and Google Pixel 2) on our adventures.
We’ve now even added a 4th! We threw in some old school film shooting on our trip to Cuba 🇨🇺 with a Yashica Electro 35 GSN - and while it was a bit of a learning curve, we love the results!

When we travel we vanish from our families, our friends, our work, and all of life's troubles. And once upon a time in a not so distant past, we would vanish entirely with no connection to home unless there was a very expensive phone call home.
These days we usually still manage to be reachable and stay connected to home using all the wonderful technology options that have turned the world from one of disconnected islands to a global community.
This trip to Panama and Cuba will be different! We are officially going off the grid for the next week (not entirely by choice - we'd of course love to keep you apprised of our comings and goings as it happens 😉). Due to the limited connectivity options available in Cuba, we thought this would be a great opportunity for us to have a technology detox.
