Mantas in the Maldives are frequently seen on cleaning stations across the country. Often in larger groups, the rays swim around a certain part of the reef that cleaner wrasse call their home. They patiently wait for their turn to get dead skin cells and parasites removed by the fish!

An ornate eagle ray - the unicorn of the sea
With less than 60 recorded sightings this ray is one of the rarest rays in the world and it is possible to encounter them here in the Maldives!
We have seen one multiple times in North Ari Atoll, so the chance is there to see one yourself!

There are multiple manta cleaning stations across the Maldives and their preferences are changing with the seasons. During the southwest monsoon, from May to November, you will find the rays on the cleaning stations on eastern sides of the atolls. During the northeast monsoon, between January and March, they will favour the western side. We could watch cuttlefish for the entire dive! Cuttlefish belong to the same class as octopuses. They control their buoyancy with a special internal shell, the cuttlebone.
