I started offering wellness journeys in 2015 because I wanted my friends and family to experience the extraordinary transformation I had experienced in Kerala, India. At a fraction of the cost in the United States, my hormones were balanced, my skin was glowing and I lost 10 pounds in 19 days. As much as I believe in a medical grade Panchakarma, I have come to appreciate how much a dreamy Ayurveda

Breastfeeding the baby is the first act of Sutika paricharya, this act by the mother is set up by mother nature to heal us of the physical and emotional trauma completely and lock us in a bond of love.

👂The ear canal is made of millions of delicate exposed nerves to pick up the slightest sound and to keep our balance.

When Winter arrives and the cold air rushes in through our funnel-like ears, these nerves jangle with shock, sending waves of pain through the sensitive inner ear.

🌿
As the Vata gets imbalanced and causes pain, warming oil will bring in Kapha and Pitta to heal and protect.

🌿
Keep your head warm, wear your favorite beanie or scarf, keep your neck cozy.

🌿
The most fascinating ear treatment I have seen was in rural Punjab. My friend's bebe roasted a whole onion in the tandoor till it was black, then cut it in half and squeezed a few drops of the warm juice straight into her ears.

🌿 I completely swear off cold hair masks and nourish them with shorter oiling sessions. Suck the life out of hair.

🌿On very cold windy days I use the diffuser at the lowest setting to dry my scalp to about 60%, as my hair tends to drink up lots of water and stays damp forever.

🌿 And I love my beanies, I even sleep in them 😂, who else loves a cute beanie?😍

🌿Ashtanga Sanghraha, Viruddha Vijnananeeya Adhyayan gives a detailed account of incompatible foods. Other classics also have additions and highlights.

🌿Unwholesome and incompatible foods cause Ama Visha, endogenous toxins build up in the body.

🌿They are to be avoided to stay healthy, especially during cusps of seasonal and solstice changes.

🌿I remember my daughter refusing such combinations even as a toddler when I did not know much about these and I would throw in spinach with butter or make a banana smoothie with yogurt.

🌿If you are used to such combinations and are perfectly healthy, gently wean yourself so that as you age, your body continues to have the higher processing power.

🌿This organ can comfortably hold about 2 cups of chewed food + liquids. Any more and it is in trouble!!

🌿As the stomach churns and digests it lets out about half a teaspoon of digested food at a time into the small intestine.

🌿One of the biggest reasons for bloating is mixing simple sugars with hard-to-digest proteins like a steak or roast. Eat dessert and fruit separately if you are sensitive.

🌿Our wise mothers and grandmothers have made sure they have raised us right with what nourishes our mind, body, and soul.

🌿It is foolish to run after every newly touted "superfood" and spend extra $$$ on imported, out-of-season foods.

🌿Superfoods appear to be superfoods in a lab test, but what acts as a superfood in our gut largely depends on whether we have the blueprint to digest it.

🌿A great example is Californians chugging down the coconut oil and getting their arteries clogged.

🌿 Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) affects our ovaries, producing excessive male hormones and multiple fluid filled sacs (poly-cysts)

🌿 This is a Kapha Vata condition with weight gain and painful, irregular or excessive periods.

🌿Young girls begin to develop facial hair due to imbalance of male vs female hormones.

🌿As the condition progresses Diabetes, Cholesterol, and Infertility are not far.

🌿Sadly as our little ones are moving away from healthy ways of living, reinforced by our lack of attention to their true well-being due to work commitments and other things taking priority, these conditions are becoming all too common.

🌿 Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) affects our ovaries, producing excessive male hormones and multiple fluid-filled sacs (poly-cysts)

🌿Consult a gynecologist and an Ayurveda physician for medical intervention, consult with a knowledgeable Ayurveda practitioner to coach your family through the D&L transformation.

🌿Millets are nutritional powerhouses. I use them once every 2-3 days mixed in with wheat for Rotis, as part of Kitcharis, soups, smoothies (roasted ragi), and my favorite, as a sweet porridge with lots of ghee and almonds.

🌿How To Cook Bajra/Pearl Millet or Jowar/ Sorghum?

Soak for 4-6 hours
Cook with 4 times more water, till soft for about an hour on low flame.
Drain and reuse the cooking liquid or boil down to evaporate.
or
Roast and Powder, used for making bread, porridges, batters, etc

🌿Smaller Millets like Rajgira can be ground into flour straight away.

🌿In Bhavaprakasha Nighantu the verses on Grains mention "Shudradanyam Kudanyam cha Trinadhanyam" The use of "cha-and" is important here.

🌿Let's understand this, here is a verse you might know:

Sharanye Tryambike Gauri Narayani Namostute, here all are synonyms of Divine mother.

🌿If it was Sharanye Tryambike Gauri *cha* Narayani Namostute, it would mean Narayani is different from Gauri, Sharanye, and Tryambike.

🌿Grammatically synonyms do not have "and" in sentence construction. This makes it clear that Millets are not "Kudanya", "Shudradhanya", they are a different class of grain.

🌿Our rice-eating habits are only one generation old and we can change our tastes to reflect the true heritage of our ancestors, the valuable local heirloom rice varieties our farmer friends have been growing for thousands of years.

🌿We vote with our feet and our cash, all that which we need to pass on to our children and grandchildren, the gift of Ayurvedic health.

🌿Basmati is an excellent rice however it is NOT for regular use. If you use it, like a Royal, your banquet has to be moderated by a knowledgeable Vaidya to prevent deficiencies and imbalances.

🌿Making a Kitchari mash out of Basmati is the equivalent of feeding your cat Caviar. Don't do it just because you can. Basmati rice is best suited for light steaming where each grain can fluff up like a jasmine flower. Every mouthful has to be appreciated like fine Caviar.

🌿The Red Rose Matta of Palakkad, Kerala has been around since the Chola Dynasty, was food for all, royals and peasants alike. It is still one of the most nutrition-packed healing rice around. Give it a try or give any local red rice a chance. You will never go back.

Our Story

I started crafting Ayurveda wellness journeys in 2015 because I wanted my friends and family to experience the extraordinary transformation I had experienced in Kerala, India.

At a fraction of the cost in the United States, with Ayurveda my hormones were balanced, my skin was glowing and I had lost 10 pounds in 19 days.

As much as I believe in a medical grade Ayurveda Panchakarma, I have come to appreciate how much a dreamy Ayurveda Spa experience is restful to a healthy individual.

Therefore Ayurgamaya, my travel consultancy, is my effort to bring to you Ayurveda like you have never experienced before.
