Everyday we see more and more Buffalos coming to our area, but we are very cautious on which one we take. In this case, we did not have to look twice. When you follow the tracks of a big old dagga boy like this one and end up with a trophy of a lifetime, I think it was worth waiting for. Hunters Dollars protect wildlife habitat and diversity…

Pictures can tell more than 1000 words, but I will try both … we experienced all ups and downs, a Sitatunga hunt can be, but we kept going and pushing our limits. For the last four days we got up early, drove one hour in darkness to our selected spots and crossed the Mayanja river in a little shaky boat … dodging Hippos, swatting Mosquitos and wondering why we were doing this. Once we were close to the Machans, we walked with rubber boots through some floating Papayrus, swatting some more Mosquitos and reaching our lookout points just at breaking Dawn. Sometimes we saw nothing, sometimes a few females and young bulls, but always some incredible birdlife. The evenings were the same, just coming back home late to camp… eat … sleep .. repeat. Yesterday afternoon it all changed and it was all worth it. At 18:40 this beautiful old bull showed up at one of our shooting lanes and our client managed to bring him down with a perfect shot at 150 yards. Guess who had to go into the water, the mud, some more mosquitos … yours truly. Happy days. PD😏👉🥃

On our way home from the Sitatunga hunt, we came across this beautiful old Bushbuck and just had to get a closer look. When we got closer and realized how old he was with tips worn down at least 1 inch, we could not have been much happier….

Day one and we could not have been happier. Looking over hundreds of Buffalos, countless Jackson’s Hartebeest, Zebras, Bohor Reedbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, Oribi, Duickers, we came around a corner and spotted this guy in a distance. Our goal was to take our time with Buffalo and try and possibly find the oldest guy with character … guess what…
This time we will take you along with many more pictures and short clips in the story and hope you will enjoy the journey🙏👍👉🥃

Botswana is just magic and we managed to track down another big old bull, just after some rains cleaned the roads for us nicely. Somehow we are really very, very lucky this year with some exceptional big old Elephants. Happy hunting. PD

When you hunt in top areas you can be picky, but also need to make a decision when something exceptional shows up. Day three of a 13 day hunt and we have been looking over more than 30 bulls per day … old bull in the salt and meat is going to the villages.🙏👍
Thanks to Jason Stone and his client for sharing camp and information. (They shot their Elephant one day earlier). Sharing camp is good fun and lots of stories are told around the camp fire … some are true🤣👉🥃
Thinking of buying a second permit for the amount of time we have left … I think it’s a good plan. Happy hunting. PD

We are still busy in „Ngarambe - Tapika“ and happy to report, that Buffalo hunting never has been better than what we experience this season! Two years of little or no traveling hunters, all year round anti-poaching units in remote areas, equals an amazing amount of top trophy quantity and quality in our areas. We are proud to say, that the last 10 Buffalos taken were all exceptional old Dagga boys and not one was taken from a herd! In fact we currently see between 5-15 different Dagga boys a day. This guy today was taken by our client with a single, well placed shot from his .375 after looking at 8 different Bulls … when are your ready for adventure? Happy hunting. Peter

… first day out and two dagga boys plus one bushpig in the salt … we left camp at 5.00 in the morning to get to my secret honey pot faaaar awaaaaay, but it was all worth it 😏🙏

21 days of hard hunting are coming to an end and it was all worth it. Leaving camp sometimes around 4.00 in the morning to get to a faaaar awaaaaay blind, see the Leopard, but he jumps out of the tree before legal daylight. Eventually I changed the bait tree to another tree, even more inside a thicket to make him feel as comfortable as possible. Water next to the tree and salted the bait … bingo😏🙏👍🐾Thanks to Sunset Tarangire for protecting some incredible wildlife areas and also to A.J. for his support with the baiting vehicle.

Yesterday afternoon we moved by charter from Selous to Masailand, checked the guns and took a little game drive. This morning we left Camp very early and we’re hoping to find some Buffalos close to a remote waterhole, when suddenly we spotted two big male Lions walking slowly through the yellow Gras, glistening in morning sun. I knew them for almost two months now and was carefully monitoring their movement and habits. It was clear to me that there were no females with dependent young ones around them and that the bigger one was definitely in the 7- 8 year bracket. As he was walking through a gap I could also pick up that he was limping badly … with all these aspects I made the decision, that this was the Lion to take in this area. We slowly moved into position for the client to get a clear shot … the shooting sticks were up, safety catch of and with the imitation of a Buffalo sound I made the Lion stop broadside in a little gap …
As hunters we care about the country, the people, the wildlife and will always have some mixed emotions about taking the life of one of these animals. However, we understand the human - wildlife conflict and how to protect some of the most remote areas. Hunters dollars pay for conservation. Stay safe. PD

The Nyassa Wildebeest is the most beautiful of all the Wildebeest (in my opinion) what do you think? You only find them in Southern Tanzania and Northern parts of Moçambique. The white band going across the bridge of the nose makes them quite special. Size doesn’t really matter (as long as i get the big one😜🤣😏)
In this case, the tape hit the 30“ mark and that is really exceptional. Congrats to our client for his patience, to wait for the right one.

We never give up … last morning of our hunt, we decided to try it one more time with an old male Leopard, that was chased around by Lions several times. He also had a big fight with another male Leopard, apparently coming too close to his territory. Our chances were slim, but we entered the blind at 5.30 with mixed feelings. Only 15 minutes later I heard some crunching noise from the bait tree and could barely see the outlines of the huge Tom. Would he stay there long enough, until legal daylight? Another half an hour later he was still busy with the warthog meat from the day before and we could clearly see his rosettes. Another 5 minutes later, the sun started to send the golden rays onto his skin … my client was ready and I gave him the go ahead, as soon as he had a steady and broadside shot. As the shot rang , he dropped out of the tree, laying dead still next to it. The birds stopped their morning chorus for a couple of seconds and it always is a sad moment as well, but we fully understand and support wildlife management and sustainable utilization of natural resources. Facts over emotions will give all species a better future 🙏👍

We followed this old guys track for 1.5 hours, before we found him milling around a nice patch of long Gras. It took some time to get into position at close range, but a well placed shot from our client with his trusty .416 Rigby finished an exciting morning hunt …

We try not to hunt the herds, but it’s always nice to have a look and sometimes a really old Dagga boy is also joining a herd for a couple of days. Botswana 3 weeks ago … we had some incredible experiences, up close and personal. With this old „Dagga Boy“ we did not have to think twice. Heavy neck, double chin, short nose, worn down horns, the perfect Bull to harvest. Driven hunts are very important for managing game populations in a very short period of time. I like to prepare myself for these challenging hunts with regular sessions at the shooting range. After each hunt I also like to analyze my shots with a tactacam or a shotkam, which helps me to make less mistakes next time. Happy hunting. PD My recommendation: use Tactacam only with smaller calibers and preferably when you have a silencer, or muzzlebrake for less recoil, because you loose about 2 inches eye relief. Tactacam … very nice for shorter range and also for great for shotgun hunting / shooting clays. Driven hunts are magic, even when no shots are fired. In this case, a young male was coming passed my stand and to me it seems, he knew that only 1 year old males and females where allowed to be hunted, or males five years and older… enjoy outdoors whenever you can. Third and last one (for now), of my thermal vision experiences in South Africa. Besides of just spotting game, I can also see potential in better judging trophy quality in low light … I never expected to get such clear contrast on horns. Thermal imaging equipment has greatly improved over the last couple of years and I really enjoy watching and filming wildlife in this new and different way…. While I was bird hunting in South Africa and checking some new areas for plains game, I also tested some equipment. In this case, a thermal imaging camera … „Liemke Keiler Pro 35“. All footage was taken during day time, between 60 - 100 meters and I was very impressed with the images. There are travel warnings for many countries, but if you plan things right, there is still a lot to do and many places you can go. I am going to South Africa for two weeks and will keep you updated on some of the travel details. First step was yesterday for PCR test and all was done and dusted within 20 min. 6 hours later I received the letter with „negative“ and happy to go. Today check in Munich airport: very few people and even with guns all checked and double checked within 20 min. Now on my way to Frankfurt and tomorrow morning arriving in Johannesburg.
