The New Brunswick Historical Society wishes to thank visitors, staff, volunteers for contributing to a successful 2024 season. Today was our last day for Loyalist House to be open for regular visitors. Watch our sire for updates on special events and public talks in what remains of 2024 and in 2025.

We recently found this silk banner in a drawer in Loyalist House- a poem written in honour of the visit of the Duke of Cornwall and York (future King George V) in 1901.

Please join us on Saturday, September 28th at 10 a.m. at the John Fisher Memorial Museum in Kingston for our September Saturday Speakers Event.

Maurice Henri, renowned photographer, will speak to us about Cameras for Healing, a non-profit organization he founded in 2002.

Cameras for Healing is a volunteer-run organization that works to promote the art of photography as a way of healing and creative expression. Based in Moncton, the organization has also worked at Shampers Bluff on the Kingston Peninsula, in Africa, and in Haiti.

Cameras for Healing works with people of all ages who are living with pain, grief, fear, poverty, or stress, to encourage them to express their emotions through visual art to help them heal. Camera for Healing provides cameras, technical support, and creative outlets to support people experiencing difficult situations.

This event will be followed by conversation and light refreshments. Admission is free and all are welcome. Goodwill donations are appreciated.

The Upperton School, at one time called the Tabor school, was located on the Cross (Crossing) Road (a short cut between Route 111 to St Martins and Route 820 to Saint John). In about 1890 the school was moved to the intersection of Routes 111 and 820 and continued in use there until it was closed in 1965 and the students bussed to Upham School.

Our exhibit showcasing the one-room schools in Kings County remains open throughout the winter, although on reduced hours (Wednesday through Saturday from 1-4 pm).
