Green in Africa Get first-hand information on eco-friendly travel from real travellers who aim to make a difference.

Our website comes from the realisation that although many people travel through Africa to appreciate its diversity, incredible wildlife and unforgettable scenery, they also leave a discernible carbon footprint on the environment they so admire. Green in Africa is our social movement to address this and Eco-Friendly-Africa-Travel our home base.

Sadio Mane, a Senegalese Soccer Star that plays for the British team in Liverpool, earns approximately 10.2 million dollars a year and has given the world a lesson in modesty after fans spotted him carrying a cracked iPhone. His response is legendary:

"Why would I want 10 Ferraris, 20 diamond watches and two jet planes? What would that do for the world? I starved, I worked in the fields, I played barefoot, and I didn't go to school. Now I can help people. I prefer to build schools and give poor people food or clothing. I have built schools [and] a stadium; we provide clothes, shoes, and food for people in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people from a very poor Senegalese region in order to contribute to their family economy. I do not need to display luxury cars, luxury homes, trips, and even planes. I prefer that my people receive a little of what life has given me," Mane said.

The ultimate sustainable packaging! We need more of this!

Vendors in Asia have come up with alternative packaging to eliminate the use of plastics by using baskets made from coconut fronds & banana leaf packaging.

The baskets (made entirely out of coconut fronds) are locally called ‘Sulingkat’. The fruit & veg wrapped in banana leaves also make the agricultural produce last longer since they keep the moisture in while blocking the heat.

In Southeast Asia, more than 75% of the material value of recyclable plastic is lost.
With only 18 to 28% of recyclable plastic recovered & recycled, most plastic packaging waste pollutes the environment, according to studies by the World Bank Group.

Using coconut & banana leaves are a great alternative to plastic as the leaves are large, thick & supple enough to be folded. This method significantly reduces the amount of plastic required.

KIRKWOOD, South Africa — About 80 kilometers, or 50 miles, inland from the coastal city of Gqeberha, a brilliant patch of green stands out against a landscape recovering from six years of drought. The rudimentary fence of wooden poles and chicken wire surrounding it has been knocked over in places...
