My childhood was strongly influenced by long stays in South America and my early passion for travels. At eleven my mum offered me a surprise trip to Paris and I promised myself I would have moved there… ten years later I did it. I’ve spent more than fifteen years between France and Spain, working in the artistic and production administration of opera houses. A few years ago I came back home to help my family and had to experience the terrible flood that almost took it away to understand how much I love this place…
Now, in addition to managing my small family hotel, I write about travels and my region, Liguria, trying not to lose sight of my own North…

Tromsø, often called the “Gateway to the Arctic,” is a vibrant city nestled within Norway’s frosty north, surrounded by stunning fjords and snow-capped peaks. With its mix of natural beauty, rich culture, and Arctic adventures, Tromsø is a dream destination for travellers seeking to experience the magic of the far north.

I started my 47-day trip through Norway here at the beginning of February. Whether hunting for the northern lights, exploring the wilderness, or immersing yourself in local culture, Tromsø has something for everyone.

Steeped in medieval history, Canterbury is famous for its stunning cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Less than an hour and a half from London, the city offers a rich tapestry of history and culture. Walk through the ancient city walls, visit the Canterbury Tales exhibition, and explore the Roman Museum. The cobbled streets and timber-framed buildings add to the city’s charm.

Montmartre is a picturesque and vibrant neighbourhood in Paris, known for its bohemian atmosphere, charming streets, and stunning city views. Here is a highly recommended walking itinerary to explore the best of this romantic hill.

Among the countless Parisian souls Montmartre is perhaps the best known, the one that makes people dream, the most bohemian one.

I've been asked multiple times, including a few minutes ago, why I've never mentioned the "Wall of Love" in Montmartre despite writing extensively about Paris.
Let me explain: Frédéric Baron's beautiful and romantic initiative aimed to sprinkle love in a world often plagued by violence and indifference. It was a wondrous journey, reminiscent of Jules Verne's tales, where "I love you" was written in 300 different languages by calligrapher Claire Kito on a wall constructed by Daniel Boulogne.
This whimsical wonderland is nestled in the heart of the Square Jehan Rictus in Abbesses, a cherished garden frequented by locals that boasts a pleasant and tranquil ambience.

Unfortunately, the rise of influencers has gradually transformed this place into a mere backdrop for photoshoots, contributing to the chaos and noise that now prevails. It saddens me to see how this once enchanting neighbourhood garden, where I used to enjoy reading and sharing sandwiches and beer with my friend Nicolas, has become less inviting even for him.

Therefore, I encourage you to visit this place, but please, do so with the utmost respect for its purpose, the project, and those who consider this little haven their green home.

Visit Genoa because here you can breathe brackishly; its narrow alleys tell the history and neverending stories, its colours unite the sea and mountains, and the rough strength and irony of the Genoese are a guarantee of authenticity.
Visit Genoa because when you leave, you will take it with you.

A liberty-style city built on several islands, stretching between the sea and a fisherman lifestyle and prized ski resorts. Ålesund, also known as the capital of the fjords, is underestimated, and I recommend visiting it!

Norwegian's connection with nature and their respect for it is the detail I love the most in this country. While hiking around, I felt blessed, and it started snowing.

P.S. One of my life's most beautiful hiking days, and I hike a lot.

Quick update!
I left for my cross-country trip in Norway a few days ago and will be discovering this stunning winter wonderland till March 1st.

A trip I planned because inspired by a few TV shows I watched on Netflix and some pics posted on Instagram by SeilNorge last winter.
So, here I am, falling in love with the vikings' homeland, and this will more or less be my itinerary: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1VlfSHDNCN1YB9nzDut4NETJLd4fRw3g&usp=sharing

Tomorrow I will be boarding a sailing ship in Svolvaer, but I already wanted to share a few pics taken in Oslo upon my arrival.

I’ll keep you posted!

P.S. Besides next week, this is not a proper holiday, but a workation, meaning that I am working remotely every afternoon. Visit Norway has a whole section on its website to help travellers with this kind of arrangements. So cool!

Today Facebook reminded me that ten years ago today, I was visiting Arequipa for the first time, falling in love with Monasterio Santa Catalina, a city within the city with four neighbourhoods emulating the Arequipa urban distribution of the first years of the Colony.

If you plan a trip to Peru (please do!), don't miss this marvel!

A breathtaking walk on Europe's most extensive icecap – Vatnajokull – with around 30 glaciers flowing out from it.

It's sobering to think that the glacier is retreating due to rising world temperatures, and in some years, it may be gone.
(it has already lost about 7km in less than five years, and the ice cave in these pictures will be gone by June!!!)

I miss this so much, and I can't wait to be up North again!

I will be doing something different this winter: I will spend the whole month of February travelling through Norway, and I'm so excited!

Also, I will sail in the Lofoten during the second week.
Have you done something similar? Any advice?

Last night a friend of mine phoned me to ask for a few travel tips to fully enjoy his stay in Paris in a few weeks.

I'm so happy when this happens, and I have so many suggestions for any stay that usually people have to stop me reminding me that they will only spend a few days in town and are not planning to move to Paris...

I fell in love with Cornwall before visiting it while reading Rosamunde Pilcher's novels in my teens.
I planned my first solo summer trip there right after college, and I keep going back year after year.
This is my home away from home and my favourite region in the world.

Here is a quick travel guide to Cornwall: https://silvias-trips.com/holiday-cornwall/
