Progress 💪🏼 1st pic is first bikini show in July 2023 before joining Body Project X , second pic is the improvements we made for her second show after 7 months together. During that time we gained around 4kg and cut back down again. Lois is a natural athlete and progress takes time, we don’t advocate excessive bulking as most of it will be fat gain and muscle will be lost in the lean down so a steady increase in weight and keep pushing the strength in the gym is the way forward. Goal is to improve each time we hit the stage. Next show we will go for a natural series to be on more of a level playing field later in the year

Are you ready to compete? Sometimes we look to competition to fulfil our needs, as a way of filling a void or gaining something we feel is missing. In reality in order to become successful in any sport or in competition we must build our foundations first . This means feeling comfortable within our own lives; within ourselves, being secure at home, having enough resources, being financially secure, feeling happy with who we are. Only then are we ready to successfully take on the challenge of competing which is essentially a blessing to be fit and healthy enough to do. If you want to compete take a look at what foundations you can lay before doing so. We can’t always give ourselves perfect conditions and life is never perfect but learn how to fuel your body without emotional attachments, create good habits, detoxify your life from negatively, shift your perspective and try to start from a stable position.

Flat feet and flat glutes?

In order to optimise your training and make sure you are improving, it is useful to look at posture. Foot position has a really big impact on the body, posture, injuries and training capacity. If feet are over pronated and lack strength in the arch, this may cause the feet to roll inwards (flat feet) not only increasing the risk of instability during training but impacting on your quality of training also.

In some cases, if your feet collapse inwards this can increase internal rotation of the femur bringing the pelvis out of alignment & into anterior pelvic tilt. This elongates the glute muscle as the pelvis is tilted. If you have an anteriorly rotated pelvis, you might find you have trouble activating the glutes whilst they are naturally in a lengthened position.

Ways to resolve this issue:
1. Have your posture assessed
2. Exercises to strengthen your foot arches
3. Stretch your calves, feet and ankles for greater range of motion
4. Strengthen your inner core muscles, breathing techniques are particularly useful
5. Work on your isolating glute muscles to bring your body back in to alignment particularly glute medius which act as ‘turn out’ for the legs and feet

Paying attention to your posture will reap rewards in the gym and you will start to see your body improving
