8 years married! 💍 where has the time gone??

From getting stuck in the mud during a rainstorm in the Costa Rican jungle to braving -30 degrees in Northern China to summiting Mount Kilimanjaro to floating in hidden salt lakes in Egypt, life is always an adventure when we are together!

The Salt Pools in Siwa were amazing!

These pools are located in an area where quarrying for salt takes place. We would never have found them alone, hidden away behind salt trucks and diggers!

Living in Egypt has one big perk- we get lots of visitors!

We have loved all of the visitors that we have had over the past year who have come to admire the pyramids, bask in the Egyptian sun and of course spend quality time with us!

A few weeks back three of my younger sisters came to visit and we had the best time showing them the highlights of Cairo and Al Soukhna!

Diani Beach in Kenya was absolutely stunning!

But whilst I do love these photos, what you you probably don’t realise is how tightly I am squeezing my tummy in or that I am posing in the best way to make me look slimmest!

Over the past two years I have definitely let things slip- I can’t climb mountains as easily as I used to and I definitely do not fit in a lot of my old clothes anymore!

But today this changes for good!!

Today is the first day of my journey with and Rachel Sacerdoti . The ISS approach focusses on three core aspects- nutrition, fitness and accountability. They have some amazing reviews on major media outlets such as the Daily Mail and the client reviews are superb! I am optimistic about this journey and looking forward to sharing some bikini photos on my next trip where I do not feel that I have to pull my tummy in or cover any unflattering areas!

Let’s do this!!

Do you like to go off the beaten path? I went for a seaside walk whilst in Diani, Kenya and it started off full of seaweed, rocks and lots of crabs, but a few minutes later it was a beautiful unspoilt paradise! Swipe to see my final destination!

What’s the smallest aircraft you have flown on?

We were surprised when we went to the airport in Nairobi to find so many tiny aircraft! We flew on a dash 8 to Lamu, which was the largest aircraft in the airport. The girls were a bit nervous as it was a lot more bumpy than the large aircraft we usually fly on, they they enjoyed the experience nonetheless (even if Saya did fall asleep!)

DID YOU KNOW?? If you are standing to the south of the equator line in the southern hemisphere, the water tends to move in an anti-clockwise manner. When you stand to the north, you will notice the water moving in a clockwise direction. If, on the other hand, you stand at the equator itself, the water shows no movement. On the equator line in Kenya there are locals who will happily show this through their street-side experiments.

This was the most epic hike the girls have done yet! Mount Longonot is a stratovolcano in Kenya, last thought to have erupted in the 1860's. It is 2776 m above sea level and the girls both climbed to the top by themselves! In fact, I think they found it easier than I did!!

Have you ever seen the movie Out Of Africa? This is the location where it was filmed! They took the animals to this island (Crescent Island, Lake Navaisha) and they never left! Now it is a unique tourist destination where you walk alongside the animals as you explore the island!

I could definitely get used to safari life!

Have you ever watched Wild At Heart? I have watched every season at least twice! It is about a British family who move to Africa and run a safari lodge. I definitely think this could be something I could do later on in life. I quite picture myself sipping a Pinot Grigio with the guests whilst contemplating life out in the bush of an evening!

We finally got to explore Alexandria!

Alexandria is a Mediterranean port city in Egypt. During the Hellenistic period, it was home to a lighthouse ranking among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World as well as a storied library. Today the library is reincarnated in the disc-shaped, ultramodern Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The city also has Greco-Roman landmarks, old-world cafes and sandy beaches. Its 15th-century seafront Qaitbay Citadel is now a museum.

We spent a day exploring some@of the ruins and the beautiful Mediterranean coast.

I completely agree that travelling with children can be transformative and can help set a positive and sustainability-focussed mindset amongst future travellers.

This summer I am travelling in Egypt and Kenya with my children age 4 and 6. They have visited a Masai tribe and learnt about how women have to walk for miles to fetch water and children do now always get to go to school. They learnt about poaching when we saw rhinos at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. They have been to a turtle conservation centre in Malindi and learnt about why these animals are endangered and what we can do to help. They helped me do a beach clean up on the North Coast of Egypt, during which I taught them about the problems with plastic pollution.

I sincerely hope that the next generations are more sustainability-minded. I am optimistic that this will be the case far more so than it is now, as evidenced in current trends with young people.

The future of sustainable travel is family travel. Travel provides teaching moments, allowing family travelers exposure to some of the most pressing challenges unfolding around the globe and inspiring future generations of environmental leaders.

The Red Sea has some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world. I was supposed to do a PADI course this summer but changed my mind after the fatal shark attack here a few weeks ago! I was brave enough to snorkel within the reef though. Would you have done the PADI course?

Resort life.

Resorts are not normally my thing, but this summer we decided to take the girls to an all singing all dancing 5 star all inclusive resort in Egypt, seen as it’s an east 5 hour drive to get there. And do you know what? I totally loved it! Don’t get me wrong, it’s no replacement for being out exploring the different cultures and wildlife around the world, BUT it is a great way to relax and let the kids have fun for a few days.

Are you a resort person? Why/why not?

A weekend getaway in El Sokhna. Whilst most foreigners have never heard of this coastal area, everyone who lives in Cairo has! El Sokhna is a popular weekend getaway for city dwellers. At only a two hour drive away from the capital, many people own second properties here. This Red Sea area is a nice place to wind down after a busy week at work, although it is traditionally Egypt so you need to bring your own wine!

The chocolate hills in Bohol are one of the most famous geological attractions in the Philippines. They are named such due to the brown chocolate colour that they turn during the dry season. Although these photos were taken at the end of the dry season and they didn’t look very brown to me!
