Minnesota Fishing Guide Service Multi-species fishing guide service, 5700 trips to date. Guaranteed fish! 35 years experience. Some say I am one of the most versatile guides in the business.
(12)

Statewide service. 4,6,8 hour trips, everything provided, fish cleaning, shore lunches, USCG licensed, Properly Insured, Ice fishing also, Fish/Hunt packages I spend approximately 300 days a year on the water (both open and frozen) promoting the sport of fishing by guiding clients from every state in the union and numerous other countries for all species of freshwater fish. The waters and resorts

that employ me range throughout the entire state of Minnesota (I utilize approx 60 different lakes from the southern part of the state all the way up the Canadian border waters—I am not a “one lake guide”) and consists of lakes, rivers, and impoundments. This of course puts me at approximately 35,000 miles a year pulling the boat around all of the popular fishing destinations Minnesota has to offer. Although most clients (90%) request to catch walleye, I also pursue all other species of fish found in Minnesota. Throughout the winter months, I provide guided ice fishing trips along with fish house rentals for my clients. Throughout the 34 years of guiding, I have accumulated approximately 5,700 guided trips and currently average 220 per season—not including ice fishing. I am also one of the only fishing guides that actively guides groups of 5 anglers in the boat—thus increasing the numbers of exposures and sales potential quite rapidly—the majority of guides I know will not take more than three anglers. As a Coast Guard Licensed Captain, I am also able to legally take up to 6 clients on many regulated bodies of water other unlicensed guides cannot touch such as many of our border waters, sections of the Mississippi/St Croix rivers and numerous other waters the USCG control. Other areas I fish involve North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and the Great Lakes. Currently I am spending numerous hours/trips to expand my knowledge and services to the saltwater guiding industry of the Florida Keys in which in the future I will spend the winters guiding saltwater adventures as well.

ICE FISHING REPORT: Howdy, the ice is shaping up nicely. Small /light ATV use (no vehicles) is slowly becoming the norm in the central/north central part of Minnesota. Ice ranges from 4" up to 8". Be wary of "reports" of 10"-12" --that is RARE at this point. With the frigid weather approaching, thick ice is just around the corner. In the meantime, panfish are hanging off of weed edges in the 10-15 ft range and are taking about any bait smaller than a Cherrio tipped with a spike or waxie. 1/32 oz jigging spoons like the Big Bad Bo are producing the bigger crappies or bluegills. Silver or gold spoons are working well. Walleyes are hanging around shoreline points or inside turns in the 13-25 ft range. Dead sticking a 2-3" shiner minnow within 10" of the bottom on a #4 red Gamakatsu circle hook will put the walleyes topside along with the classic jigging glide baits like a Jiggin' Rap or a Puppet Minnow in a black/silver/blue/chrome color combo. Tip the glide baits with the head of a crappie minnow. Northern pike can be found cruising the shallow weedbeds from last summer (which are still green) in the 6-12 ft range. Cabbage weed is king, but pike are not picky too about any kind of mixed weed (beds). A ½-3/8 oz silver/chartreuse Kastmaster jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head aggressively worked about 2-3' off of the bottom will provide hard hitting strikes—so hang on to the rod! Bonus largemouth bass will also be caught and a few bonus walleyes using this system! Good Luck! Lotsa Fish! Lotsa Fun! # I made this video last spring but is still relevant in regards to basic fishing knowledge. This also points out how different fishing conditions are from year to year during the same time frames. This year the water temps are extremely warm 63-68 degrees vs. last years mid-50’s to low 60s!

Its the biggest holiday of the year--the Minnesota Fishing Opener and the walleye is the name of the game in the next few days! Here are a couple easy to follow tips to help put more Spring walleyes in the boat! Lotsa Fish! Lotsa Fun!

10 tips for Opening Day Walleye Success:
1. Fish away from the crowds. Don’t be a follower—be original.
2. Try small, shallow, “no-name”, warm lakes—especially this year (drive south?) Don’t forget the river!
3. Stick to live bait—small/medium shiner minnows, small/medium leeches. 1/16-1/8 oz. jigs or long snelled live bait rigs. Use stinger hooks for the infamous cold water “short hits”.
4. Fish shallower than you think—2-5ft is not uncommon—even during a sunny day!
5. Fish deeper than you think—20-35ft deep has produced on many opening day trips!
6. Fish any possible current areas (creeks/rivers/wind) or shallow sand flats with new weed growth—day or night that’s where the forage (and feeding fish) are found.
7. Stick to blue/white/glow/green/purple/black/silver/gold for colors—all natural baitfish themes—unless the water is “chocolate” then bump it up to fluorescent orange/green or chartreuse.
8. Cover water and search out the loose groups of roaming fish. If possible use an electric motor—stealth is important—pretend you are stalking deer in the woods.
9. Wash your hands, tiller handle, or steering wheel with no-scent soap. Fish don’t like bacon, donuts and premium gas like we do.
10. Have fun and be respectful to fellow anglers. No crowding or tailgating a “hot” boat. No drinking and boating—be safe! Bring the kids!
